I'm a 4th year at nycom.... here's my take:
The average stats according to the dean are 26 mcat, 3.45 gpa... and just about everyone has some kind of EC worth talking about. There's a wide range of people in the school. Very diverse. You have the married crowd, the single-and-willing-to-mingle party crowd usually right out of college, the late 20's, early 30's second-career crowd, the 30 offshore MDs who are accepted to retrain as DOs, and the babies who are 20 years old when they start med school who are part of the BS/DO program through NYIT or some of the SUNY Schools. There's PAs in the class, lawyers, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists, etc. Usually about half the class is from out of state. 56% of last years incoming class were women. Most people live within 5-10 miles of the school for first and second year and tend to move towards or into the city for rotations in 3rd year. 4th year you're much more open to travel and do what you'd like as long as you meet the requirements.
hope this helps. Feel free to PM w/ with specific Q's. good luck.
