Guys and Gals,

I just received an interview invitation for NYCOM today!! This is my first interview and am very excited/nervous. I will be coming from Boston and am wondering how the heck I can make it to Old Westbury. Does a Greyhound bus run through this area? Would it be better to take a train or a plane? Did you guys rent cars or anything? Guys, I need your help here on the first interview! Please let me know of anything that help me out at getting and staying at NYCOM and also any tips about interviewing.

Do you plan on staying in NYC overnight?

a lot of people suggest renting a car so you can drive around and check out the neighborhood and see if you like the neighborhoods most students end up living in.

Otherwise that fastest and cheapest public transportation you can take is the LIRR long island railroad (from Penn Station) to Westbury and take a taxi cab to the school. A train ride and taxi fare from NYC will be about $20 total each way. And you are looking at about 1-1.25 hour trip

Me too, me too!! Yayy! Very excited for my first interview. Anyone know how the campus is? by the hand drawn black and white map, it looks like theres a lot of trees, and hey thats a big plus for me, im a nature buff... judging by huntergatherer's post, it seems as though most students live in the surrounding burbs, not on campus?

its a beautifyl campus but not really too great for public transportation. at my interview those who commuted pretty much stayed over. LIRR is about a 15 min ride about 15 bucks by cab.
easy building to find!!!
really great interview.. no stress at all!!

If you want to fly, you could go through Macarthur Airport in islip. Its in the sticks of long island, its close to the Long Island Expressway, and you would avoid driving through the city. There is a car rental place called A-Car Rental that charges about $25 per day for a compact car. For places to stay, the East Norwich Inn is a great place. Very clean and inexpensive (for long island) and its located a few miles down the road of the college. If you really want to save money, there is a bus that runs from Boston's Chinatown to New York's Chinatown and costs $15. My sister takes it all the time. I think they run every hour. From there, you go to Penn Station and take the LIRR (commuter rail) to greenvale, and catch a cab to the campus or hotel. Total trip would cost about $75 round trip plus the cost of a hotel. You would be better off having a car, though so you arent stuck waiting for cab service.

Good luck. You can PM me if you have any questions...I've lived on Long Island for about 26 years and I know the area around the campus very well.

If you're going to fly you'll want either ISP or LGA. You can probably catch a train or bus from LGA. ISP you'll need to rent a car or catch a cab.

NYCOM is also in one of the most affluent areas of Long Island, one of the most affluent areas of the country. I think J-Lo has a house in old westbury to give you a perspective.
