Hey guys, I am just wondering if Nycom invites all applicants. I wanted to know because I was in the process of applying to do schools but since i scored very low on my mcat (23) I decided not to fill out secondaries. then today I get an email from NYCOM saying i have been selected for interview and to finish my secondary. I also have a 3.4 cgpa and 3.3 sgpa with lots of ECs.. and volunteer work.. Should I even both going in for the interview? has anyone been accepted to NYCOM with my stats?
Any help would be awesome..
thanks

My stats were as follows:

sGPA 3.53 uGPA 3.67 MCAT: 32

I did not receive an interview and I submitted back in, oh, I'll say August or so? No, they don't interview just everyone and YES, you should go. Most on here would tell you that you don't have a shot at an interview let alone an acceptance with a 20. Go there and prove everyone on here wrong!

Good luck!

are you a new yorker?

3.3, 30N, no word from NYCOM-- distressing because it's one of my top choices. Take your interview and RUN!

Has anyone received a rejection or hold from NYCOM? I'm wondering if I'll ever hear from them... 🙁

NYCOM may be interviewing you for the medprep program. Basically people with lower stats are interviewed and granted a conditional acceptance if they pass a 6 week intensive course over the summer. Either way go for the interview, because either way is a potential acceptance. One directly, and one after a summer course...

when i applied there last cycle i didn't hear a word from them till a week after classes started...then again my stats were much lower than yours..

I would call the admissions office and ask them what are considered competitive mcat and gpa for students matriculated last year...then go ahead and ask what might be holding you back...

if all else fails in another 2 weeks or so, I would write them a letter of intent after you've done an extensive amount of research on the school, spoken to students who go there, and know good details about professors and whatnot, so that they can see through the letter how much time you really put into finding out about they're school.

n if they still don't want you, then screw them...your stats are competitive for every other DO school out there so i'm sure you won't have a problem getting in SOMEWHERE

Are you OOS? I think NYCOM is one of those schools that really focus on students from the region. Play up your NY ties if you can. I have similar stats, but am OOS, and haven't heard a peep since the secondary.

OOS but within the region. I'm from CT.

Heh, I had similar stats, lower gpa, and I never heard anything from NYCOM. When I asked about it after the application cycle they said they just never got around to my application.

3.93 cGPA, 3.87 sGPA 26P MCAT, and have been accepted to three places already... nothing from NYCOM. I was a bit bummed because I considered going there. Oh, well.

Wow. Alot of you guys have really good stats. I feel super lucky. But an interview is one thing. Acceptance is another

I am interviewing at NYCOM on 1/25 and staying at the East Norwich Inn on Monday night.

Anyone also staying there and interested in splitting a cab with me to get to school for the afternoon interview?

I stayed there...it was a nice place. The school is only five miles due west, on the same road
