anyone know how long it is?
i read it starts at 11am, i jst realized i got a conflict that same afternoon and need to be done by 2-3. i am not planning on applying till next yr, so i have one more open house before i complete my application.
if anyone knows what the schedule is like that would be very helpfull

thanks

I don't remember it lasting more than about 3 hours last year. This includes eating some wraps and talking to both of the deans of Admissions.
last year it went something like:

Part I:
welcome from Dean of medical school
Introduced to a few academic support departments
financial Aid talk

Part II:
small group discussion with 2 student ambassadors
Tour with 2 student ambassadors

Part III:
OMM presentation
Small Group discussion with an OMM fellow

hmm...Maybe it was longer than 3 hours. you can try calling the Admissions Dept.

😀

Are you guys wearing suits/interview like attire to the open house?

I'm going to go in a tux. That'll impress them!

Do you think going could help ones chances of getting in? Honestly, I dont know and that is why I am asking (new to this process)
thanks😉

yeah i wonder bout the dress code as my zoot suit is in the cleaners

Can I attend the NYCOM open house, without filling out the "Nycom open house request form" or there is no point in showing up this saturday without the reply form mailed?

you can say you're me. I can PM yu my name, lol. I am not going to go, and since they never confirmed anything, I dont feel obligated to call them and cancel.

LoL. Thanks, I'll mail them the form and call the admissions office thursday.

Hmmm I can't use your name cause my swiss wiretransfer to the Dean would help you, not me:laugh: .

I spoke with someone in admissions earlier this week. I had not heard back from them regarding the open house so I wasn't sure if my "spot" was gone.

She told me that they just use the form to get a general idea of how many people will show up. I don't think it'd be a problem if you showed up.

Hope this helps!

Can someone involved in the process or who went thru it before tell me how much one on one contact there is. Do they have you in small groups where they expect you to speak up or is it very informal that you can ask questions if you want. I'm not even applying this year, is it ok for me to be there?

Things could change this year but 2009 Open House:
Small group with fellows was about 10-15 people last year
Small group with Student Ambassadors was about 20 people last year

In both sessions they will do the talking initially and then do an informal question and answer session. I'd say 15%-20% of those present had questions.

There is was a Q&A session with the Dean and financial aid last year during the initial discussion in the Auditorium. Last year there were one-on-one talks with the deans of Admissions, financial aid, Equity and Opportunity, etc. after all tours and small groups were complete.

The dean welcomed the students that were not in the application process last year.

Nobody is going to call on you if you wish to remain silent/anonymous

Thanks for the info. Who are the "fellows", doctors? What are the one-on-one talks with the deans of Admissions, financial aid, Equity and Opportunity? Is that just if you sign up for special meetings, etc of how does this happen? Can we bring our family with us?

hey who was there?? i had leopard print kitten heels on 😉

and the anatomy lab was awesome!

I attended, it was very nice. But the tuition talk was crazy! lol

They don't want people starting school and finding they can't afford school, rent, can't get private loans, etc. I got that talk at the Open House and interview. :scared:

anyone get a chance to talk to the deans?

Nope not me, I spoke to Rodika briefly. I have an interview coming up on the 30th so I guess I'll talk more with them then.

HG,
Were you there at all?

There didn't seem like there was an opportunity to speak with any of the admissions deans.

Dr Ross-Lee spoke for an hour or so, then the financial aid admin spoke (Wow 62k a year?!).

After that the student guides took us around then released us into the wild.

The anatomy lab was really cool and the OMM lab is one of the best I've seen so far. It's very modern and clean looking.

PS: The bear toy in the whitecoat rules

PPS: The ceramic whitecoat is cool too 🙂

i got the opportunity to speak to ms croot and to ms zaika, but the day was a bit rushed! also talked to some awesome students who gave me some insight into things like DPC vs. systemsm, etc.

the financial aid talk was scary. the lady said, don't apply here if you have bad credit! scary, but luckily, not an issue for me!
