Just wondering what peoples Gpa was along with what they did on MCATS who applied to NYCOM....Did you get an Interview?...if so, how did it go...?
I am looking to take the April and August exam...also, I would appreciate any advice on tricks people did to study for MCATs. and if you thought they were good for you or not...basically I WANT YOUR WAR STORIES ABOUT WHAT YOU DID TO GET INTO NYCOM. thanks
good luck to everyone out there.....

1. chill out
2. 29/3.45 (got in last fall)- their averages are available somehwere if you search for them...low 20's and around 3.4 something if I remember correctly
3. Why are you planning on takign the MCAT twice?
4. Check the MCAT forum for the best advice on that
5. About nycom specifically...check the interview feedback section on this site for the most candid info on the interview and process.

goodluck

I'm pretty sure the average at NYCOM is around 3.4/25MCAT. My interview ambassodors quoted MCAT averages of 27 but I'm skeptical. I think the school tries to keep a lid on stats.

I have 3.5/25M and was interviewed recently. Apply EARLY.

I called NYCOM this morning (praying, mind you, that I don't get the really mean lady) and they still haven't decided on my app. 🙁

Complete in early November
Interviewed 1/19
27R, 3.06 sci, 3.3 overall

3.4 overall gpa, 3.2 sci gpa, and 27 mcat. i interviewed on 12/7 and got my acceptance 12/28. i took kaplan for mcat prep.. ive heard some negatives about it, but i thought it prepared me well..

I plan on taking it twice because for some reason i don think i am going to do well in april. I cant explain why, but its just how i feel I am not the best test taker, esp mult choice. when a test involves short ans or essay, I get A's. It is a mix of ADD and dyslexia. no lying.
I need to get at least a 30 for MCAT score because my GPA is somehting like a 3.2. however by the end of this semester, I will have a BS. Also, I work in the ER where about 6 DO's some res. some attending, and I can get letters from them...one of them also sat on the review com. and gave me a tip or two about the interview, while another 3 went to NYCOM. so hopefully that will mean something. Also I have my EMT liscense with time spent on the ambulance from my fire dept. I am hoping all those will help give me an edge to make up for some things that may be lacking.

I am about the same as you. GPA wise. I would love to get a 27- 30 on MCAT. since you have approx the same grades as i do, what did you have to do to get the 27?

3.1 GPA(both) 32MCAT
interviewed 1/4
accepted 1/19

Plan to take the MCAT once. You have the wrong mindset. Make this a no holds barred fight to the finish. Confidence will help you settle down when you take the exam. Sure saved my butt on PS.

I agree with Hunter, plan for only taking it once. Pretend that you only have one shot and bust your @ss!!

I have a 3.2 overall, 3.6 science, and a 26 (7P, 10V, 9B). I interviewed on Jan 11th and I received my letter last week. Apply early and do some volunteering and you should be good.

Your connections, experience and availability of mentor-type people should really help you. I can't speak for NYCOM specifically, but generally gaining clinical experience w/ alumni and writing about meaningful experiences w/ them (and relating it to the school) in your personal statement should be a major plus and make up somewhat for any percieved weaknesses.

About the MCAT....I agree with planning for going all out on your first attempt....if you are preparing correctly you should be taking practice tests under test conditions before the real thing anyway (ie time yourself and really grade it). That way you can still have your mentality of needing to take it several times, but only the final one will count and you will know where you stand by then. I really think you should check out the MCAT section on this site for more specific advice and strategies though.
