hey all.

i was trying to find threads from last years applicants, but my laptop is far too slow for such searching! thought maybe someone here could help 😉

i know that the secondary comes with an interview (which dont start til nov-dec), but i also thought i heard that LOR's werent due until then either, they just needed to be in before the interview. any truth to this?

i am starting grad school at nyit and want my second letter to be from one of those professors. but i also have a rather fabulous LOR from a DO who went to nycom, who i shadowed for months. my GPA is not stellar, i am hoping for a nice mcat score though. should i send the DO letter ahead first, as soon as my app goes to them? i want an interview!!!!!!

sorry for being so wordy!! please help 😕

sasha 😀

edit-i should add, that i have the rest of my LOR's, just not that second science, although i will before the interview!

I spoke to a woman at NYCOM and she said that I could go ahead and send my LORs. So I think you could send what you have now, then send that additional letter whenever it's ready. It couldn't hurt, right?

Any insight from fellow NYCOM'ers is appreciated its my #1 choice

as soon as i'm complete with aacomas, and its sent, i am going to send out the LOR's that i've got. some of my professors are also professors at NYCOM so i'm going to try to get one from one of them, otherwise, just from any nyit professor i have.

any news or info from other NYCOM hopefuls? (in general, not just on my questions)

be sure to go to the NYCOM Open House and talk to Ms Zaika AND Ms Croot. Tell them what you've been doing to get into NYCOM.

Open House is Nov 18th and usually the first batch of interview invites get received right after that.

-at some point NYCOm sends a letter that they received your primary and gives a date when to send LORs. it was around this time last year when we got the go ahead. Send LORs as you get them. Call every 3 weeks to confirm. Be polite. Be patient.

-some people get to the interview and all LORs are not in yet. I had sent one last minute last year and they confirmed it as I completed my interview. They had a stack of LORs that they were going through that day.

-about 24 students in this years class are from the BS/DO program. I'm thinking going to the NYIT in grad school should be helpful.

-if all of your LORs are not in at the time of the interview they will notify you and it will delay the process.

:luck:

NYCOM reviews your application and offers interviews before they receive your LORs and before they get a secondary for you. I did not have mine in and they offered me interview. You have until the interview to get them LORs, and you bring the completed secondary with you to the interview.

This is true. But on the other hand, I did send in my LOR's before my interview invite. I don't think it hurt me any since I now go to NYCOM!
