NYCOM sec??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't think anyone has. They ask you to fill out the secondary once you go there for the interview. I was told that during the last cycle, interview process began in November so still long ways to go. They screen from ACOMAS application.

oh..woah..that's a long time from now..thanx for the info

guys,

NYCOM hasn't yet finished with the class of 2008. So, it will be awile until they start with the class of 2009. Last year, they started interviewing in November and finished about in the end of Spring (I am not too sure about this, they maybe even went into May). As for the secondary, when they send you and interview invite, that letter will have a secondary that you fill out and give to them when you come for your interview. Good luck.

If you do a search you'll find a copy of the secondary that I typed out and posted 4 or 5 months back. g'luck with the application process and especially to those still waiting to hear back.

They start late and they end later than most. I am now still waiting to get accepted off waitlist at nycom with the orientation starting two weeks from tomorrow and class starting in three weeks from today. Good luck guys, it looks like a nice school.

good luck dimitryi, been following the wL thread for a while. i hope you get it.

do you know, are we supposed to go ahead and send LOR's? or do we just wait for the interview/secondary invite before sending them?

I would send them in before you get the secondary/interview because LOR's are one of the things that they use to evaluate whether or not to give you and interview. Still, they have about 250 spots each class and they accept about 500. They usually interview about 750. So, if you get an interview, you have a pretty good chance of at the very least going on the waitlist if not accepted all together.

hey all...im not an NY state resident....does anyone have specific numbers of people who are not state residents and their chances of getting in? thx in advance

I just got off the phone with NYCOM to substantiate what was said in the earlier postings and it turns out that it is true...at your interview you fill out the secondary app and pay the $60, not before. However, they told me that they don't look at your letters of rec before your inviting you to an interview and that the only criterion for interviews is your primary. They plan on doing interviews in early November and they will start invitations in October. Hope this helps!

Yes, this is exactly as it is. I'm glad someone cleared up the confusion. The only thing I'd change here is: fill out your secondary before you go because usually they send it to you before YOU set up an interview date with THEM. As in, they send you a letter with the secondary questions in it, and you're instructed to call and set up a date that is convenient for you...they usually have spots Tuesdays through Fridays. Again, the rule here, "the earlier, the better" strictly applies.

My suggestions: find Kry's previous post with the questions, have those answers ready, and as soon as you get your envelope with the secondary sheet and instructions on calling to set up your interview date, CALL and set your interview... THEN fill out the secondary and have your ducks in a row before you're there. It's kind of ego-lifting when you're sitting around the table, and more than a few people are filling out their secondary form and having to guess at the answers, while you've got yours neatly organized and prepared. 🙂

Good luck to those applying for the 2009 cycle! :luck:

I dunno if it matters, but I typed mine up on Word, pasted the answers on their secondary form, then photocopied (2 sides --> 2 sides) the form so it looks like I typed it directly onto the sheet. Hehe I know, I'm a nerd.

see Im a little confused. i thought we were supposed to fill out in the office or prior or after the interview... so how can you photocopy it onto the form? I thought this was all supposed to be done by hand. I was actually joking to my friends about this if I get an interview, I would try the pasting and that... but do they normally allow students to use the copier?

i just finished handwritting a secondary and my childish blockprint will probably not cut it. haha. to the people who got interviews and were accepted or waitlisted or etc. did you guys get a quick response? like within two weeks?

The secondary form was sent in with the letter for your interview invitation. We were supposed to have filled it out and turn it in on the day of the interview. Some people don't do it until they get there I guess, but I would think it'll one less thing for you to stress about if you have that done prior to your interview date so you can just hand it in that morning. I would think it's good to do it prior to going to NYCOM because you'll have a more well thought out answer for the questions.

Like I said, I photocopied mine... I found out I got in 3 days after my interview! 😀
