hey guys...i was accepted to NYCPM and still deciding on where to go (still have couple interviews left) and was just wondering if there is a laptop requirement for 1st years (not that this is going to affect my decision or anything but I was just wondering)?

Just be yourself. It was very laid back and it's more of a conversation with the interviewer rather than an interrogation or stressful interview. In addition to interviewing with a staff member, you also get interviewed by a student. This made the environment really friendly and easy to settle into. As long as you know why you want to go into podiatry and present yourself well you'll be fine. Good luck! 🙂

try your best to go to another pod school nycpm is the worst pod school in the whole universe. Honestly, it is sad that it is even a school. The whole school and systme is just a corrupt systme that is the sadest entity in the world. they fail out 35 kids from the freshmen and sophomore years. further, since the deans own the school no one is there to tell them to anything. Honestly, unless this is the only school you got into. Please do not ever i mean ever come to this school. The better business bureau should have shut down this place. nycpm brags about its clinic but you dont realize that they are all hiv patients and ppl with the worse infections in the world and you as a student are exposed to them. Honestly, just get the hell out of here as soon as you can. This is no joke

I've been a forum browser for a long time, but daryoush85 pushed me to join and show how immature he is. I am also a NYCPM Class of 2012, and am ashamed to be in the same class as this guy. Notice how he is afraid of the "ghetto" and is really, really concerned with how much money he is going to make. Also notice how he says he doesn't want to hear anymore "negativity" about NYCPM, "period" on 01-29-2008. On 05-04-2009, 15+ months later, he posts to get the hell out of NYCPM.

Please note especially the following posts:

6-(The whole post, And no you didn't get accepted to UMDNJ-Dental without a bachelor's degree (see quote 10). And DPMs can make "serious dough")

7-"could you make 300k/yr?" (There is more to life than money, like dignity)

8-"like i shouldn't have to say i am a podiatry student i should say i am in medical school!" (I'm proud to say I'm a Pod Student)

9-"screw dentistry" (Then why did you apply there?)

10-"i got in without a bachelor's degree" (You wouldn't know about a 24 MCAT score, would you???)

11-"jay-z ghetto environment in the bronx,harlem" (No comment...)

12-"there is nothing wrong with gainin some capital once in a while" (HAHAHAHAHAHA, WTF does this mean?!)

Yes I know I am being offensive towards this guy, but I have a right to at least defend my class and my school. If this is how any student is going to act, please do not come to this school. But if you are a normal person (unlike daryoush here) you will have no problems getting through the program AND enjoying it.

Don't feel bad for him because a few days before he posted his last message, a professor ripped him during class because he asked "Is this lecture going to be on the next exam." That's why he posted such garbage about NYCPM.

hey is anyone going for the jan. class? also do a lot of ppl get scholarships?
btw i heard that parkchester is the place to be b/c it's a real apartment with cable tv/internet/phone/all utilities/furnished and the other place is just a dorm like a college dorm. I saw the place and it really looks crappy

i got the 16k scholarship but it seemed like they just gave it to me

in all honest it's jsut a tiny dorm like literally 10 ft by 5 ft and it has like no conveniences like tv etc..liek the place in parkchester yes the nieghborhood is crappy ill agreee to that..but the place is cheap b/c 3 bedroom has your own room, good apartment it's clean etc.., all the utilities paid for, they have everything furnished, and they give you cable tv, cable internet, and telephone..
Ill be honest like draper looked exactly like a college dorm and it's 820/month😱 like what a rip off honestly
the only plus about draper is that it's in manhattan which is a nice neighborhood and it's about a 10 minute shorter subway ride...im not tryin to exaggerate but i went and saw both

i just hate like with a great passion college dorms..it's partly b/c i lived in one for like 3 years and im like about to be 23 and i can't take it being in that small of a room i need a place to go back and chill eat food..watch tv..etc..🙂

hey i was curious if NYCPM is the lowest pod school? b/c everyone keeps on talkin down upon it. I reasoned to go there b/c it's the oldest, is affiliated with good NY hospitals(columbia, mt. sinnai, beth isreal), and that rich DPM levine went there.

Basically about 2 yrs back i took the mcat and made a really low score. So i was like screw this and i took the DAT instead and got a 19, got into NYCPM, and got a 16 k scholarship. The dilemma is that I also got into Boston Univ, and New Jersey for dent. school. The truth is that I dont like dentistry but it's just that dentists make some serious dough. I know podiatry is a much better field b/c you are actually a physican, doing medicine, and it's rewarding. But it just seems like ppl look down on DPMs, and you dont make serious dough..i mean Azpod said the avg. podiatrist was 150-170k for 2006. Yet, i dont know...the good part is that pod school is like 20-40k cheaper than boston and new jersey. What would you guys do if you were me honestly?

I know this sounds greedy but if you are a surgical podiatrist who did a plastic/reconstructive fellowship could you make 300k/yr? like you should be paid as much as a surgeon b/c you are trained like one

yeah i know but i just hate how podiatrist are treated that are you are not a physician.... podiatrists are as smart as an MD, just a well-trained, and should be given the same respect/money as a podiatric surgeon (especially if you are in a sub speciality like plastic/reconstructive) as a general surgeon..like i shouldn't have to say i am a podiatry student i should say i am in medical school!

tite that's what i wanted to hear..hahah yeah screw dentistry i called the navy up and they said starting dentist salary is 83k and podiatry is 110k/yr but this is given that they pay all ur loans off for you. It showed me that yes I am still a physican and physican>> dentist anyday of the week.

i got in without a bachelor's degree all you need is above the average so liek a 3.3 and above, mcat of 24, or dat of 19 and above

The classes, professors, and work load is still hard. It is by no means a joke at all. A lot of people who dont know anything about podiatry dont realize that you are in medical school and your work can't be taken lightly. I believe that's part of the reason why the drop out rate for pod schools is high. Also given that in 2008 everyone has to do the 3 yr residency (surgical), the boards have become really an almost mirror image to the usmle.
For everyone's information barry and cspm are the lowest pod schools out there not nycpm. A lot of ppl from barry transfer out of there to get into nycpm just b/c everything is soo disorganized and not together.
The positives of nycpm is that you dont have the typical *******s at dmu so everyone is supportive and concerned about graduating than trying to be the biggest jerk ever. Yes the school is like 100 yrs old so naturally things aren't as new.

I am not discrediting other schools at the end of the day if you study hard and have the numbers you can get into anywhere from any school. All I am saying is that nycpm is not a joke institution and we do not allow just anyone in. This year we are cutting our class size to 80 ppl from the original 100 ppl a few years back in order to increase the quality of student entering.
The reason why i chose nycpm was b/c the ppl were really friendly, nice, and supportive. I wanted this type of environment b/c I came from a prestigous undergrad. program and hated everyday of it. Like I said it's w/e school that you fit best in. This is to say choose the one that you are more likely to be comfortable and succeed in. Don't just choose the school that everyone thinks is the most prestigous b/c the climate of ppl in there can get to some ppl and really hurt their academic progress.

Btw. i only mentioned Dr. Levine b/c she is the most influential female podiatrist to the field. This statement was made so that everyone can realize that you can still go as far as ppl from other institutions. When i first got on here i was just shocked on the discrediting that everyone was giving nycpm that's all. I realized later that they had no idea what they were talking about.

FYI I still thinks it's easier to get into barry than nycpm.
