Hey, for any of you out there who have applied/interviewed at/heard from NYMC, how long did it take? I was complete at the end of September and I have heard not a peep from them at all. No email, no snail mail, no anything. Should I call the admissions office and inquire or is that being inpatient and pushy? Thanks for the input.

I got an email from them a few days ago saying they hadn't received my letters...when i inquired they said the email was a mistake and to disregard it. My status was updated later in the day showing on what day they did in fact receive my materials. However, I have yet to receive any news on their decision regarding my application. Sorry that I cannot be of more assistance but i get the impression that things must be quite hectic there at the moment.

I can't answer the questions concerning interview invitations, but I can for the first few. I applied there last year, complete in August, and didn't hear anything until my rejection letter came in the spring. I had called several times, sent several update letters and letters of interest, and still heard nothing. When I called I would just get some random secretary who would tell me "your file is under review" like a broken record, even though they had probably decided in September that I was rejected.

So far it looks like history will repeat itself again. NYMC is lame.

i think they're just really really really swamped

complete September 18, Interview Invite November 7

It doesn't seem like they the review the files in the order they were received though..... the process is completely random.

If I ever get in and actually become a doctor, I definitely want to be on an Adcom just to find out how the hell they work 😛

I was complete 9/25 and received an invitation earlier today (12/10).

what were ur stats if u don't mind me asking?

I was complete in August, recieved an invite a month later and interviewed in late october.

They get a ton of applications every year, when I interviewed they told us they already had over 10,000 completed apps for this cycle, and again that was october. So they just have a lot of people to go through.

i also received an invite from them. I was complete sometime in September and I received the invite late November

so far it's the only interview i have ever received, so i gotta give my everything.. 😀

Good luck! I remember discussing committee LORs on here with you a few months back (and how annoying it is when that's the one thing holding up your applications). I'm glad to hear about the interview invite....remember, it only takes one!

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Hang in there. I know it's depressing to be on SDN with tons of people who were complete way earlier than you thought possible. Even I considered myself "early" and there were what seemed like millions of other SDNers getting acceptances while I was still waiting on interviews/decisions. Hopefully there will be a wave of interviews headed your way before the holidays or shortly thereafter . . . you've still got several months.

i was complete mid Sept. I just got my interview 11/28 sch for Jan, because finals I couldn't go sooner 32 mcat 3.60 gpa. plus a master

Complete ~Aug 6th....Interview Invite Aug 28th....Interview Oct. 3rd...Acceptance Dec. 5th....and recently declined so I hope it opens it up for one of you guys...like others have said...they seem to be totally overrun with apps - definitely one of the highest app numbers of any school I've dealt with...I wish all you guys the best of luck with it!!!

Yay! That's great! Hopefully they get back to you quickly with good news.

Thanks guys. It's just frustrating when you've only had one interview and you only applied to 7 schools. I felt like a fool when I interviewed at Stony Brook last week and nearly everyone there was on their 5th+ interview. I feel it went well though so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Stony Brook is my #1 choice, but I would still love to have one or two more interviews. Just gotta remember, its a marathon, not a sprint.

Don't worry about the others... I was on my 1st interview a while ago and the first girl i met was on her 7th! .... and she had the nerve to say "Oh I'm so exhausted... I'm just jaded right now".... I wanted to slap her and say "Well if you're so tired I could have taken some of those interviews off your hands"

some people dont realize their good fortune...

But as they say, "IT ONLY TAKES ONE".... if stony brook went as well as you think, then who cares how many interviews the other people have.

p.s. think about the thousands of people you will never meet because they never get an interview period

Yeah I was thrilled when I went on my first and only interview back in October. I was absolutely psyched to be there and I was one of a handful on their first interview. One girl was doing great but was complaining about flying up and down the East Coast. She's from California so I can see how it'd be annoying to be far from home for so long, but count your blessings people.

Wasnt marked complete till the second week of Nov, even though everything was sent in late Sept. Still havent heard a peep.

I sent them all of my materials on Aug 8th. They had me marked as complete on Aug 24th (but thats the day my MCAT scores were released), and I got an interview invite on Sept 11th. I had all of my stuff in really early, and they did get a TON of applications this year, so its probably going to take double the time that it was taking if you got your stuff in early. Good luck :luck:

file complete 9/11. haven't heard anything since.
