Hey SDN,

I am still working on the NYU application.

This is probably a really dumb minor concern but just though I would ask your all's advice. I had two withdrawals in my courses and wasn't sure if I should list them with the other courses I have taken. When I called the school, they said just to put only the courses that make your app the strongest. But on the other hand, I don't want to appear sneaky that I didn't include the withdrawals. They said you didn't have to include all of your courses.

With the essay, apparently their is no limit to it. When I called the school, they said could send the essay on a separate sheet and that somepeople had turned in 3 page essays.

Just wondering if you heard anything different about the app.

Thanks,
Cather

This isn't a dumb concern at all. I just checked the app and it says "list ALL courses taken." If somebody at the school told you to only put what makes your application strongest... well, I'm not sure then. Who did you talk to? Was it a secretary or somebody who actually has a say in the admissions decisions (and at some schools, ties are broken by secretary votes believe it or not)?

If I were in your position, I'd probably include them in my list of courses and try to explain it in the essay. This avoids the sneakiness problem. If your application is otherwise strong and they're not willing to hear an explanation because of a withdrawal (for which there may or may not be a good reason), then you probably wouldn't want to go to that school anyway. It reflects how they might treat you as a student...

The person that answered the phone told me that. I don't know if
they were an admissions officer or not but I asked her again if I needed to put the withdrawals and she said, no, you should the courses that make your app the strongest.

I'm leaning towards putting them in.
