NYU Dorms?!?

For the d1's that are in the NYU dorms...how do you guys like it? What kind of rooms do you guys have? Will it be a problem in getting into the dorms, in others words, they don't guarantee housing..so is it ok to just hope you get in? How hard is it to get a studio to share with one other person? Sorry for all the questions..

there is a thread for NYU's 2010 class. post your questions there. you'll get a better response. as someone who lives in NYC though, i recommend housing in queens to save money..

I am in the dorms right now. It's basically a 2 bedroom apartment...a shabby one, but who cares...so many more pros than cons. Meet a bunch of people, get used to the Manhattan area, 3 min walk from campus, etc. If you can you should try to get in the dorms. The dorms are on a first come basis so you may still have a chance or if you don't you may want to go to www.craigslist.com and go to Manhattan and type in gramercy when searching for apartments because that is the area near campus. You could choose to commute from other places, but I wouldn't recommend it. The closer you can be the better.

You don't want to commute. Most people I know who started out commuting moved to the city before the first semester is up.

But living off the campus can really help saving money..... Do you guys really think it's a big issue to commute? I am still debating whether to live close by or commute from Queens. Any help from current NYUCD students?

How much money will you save total after 4 years? It's stressful to commute and you don't want unnecessary stress. The 2nd year only gets harder and it makes or breaks people and commuting won't help. People do it all the time, but most wish they would have lived closer. I was in your shoes asking all the same questions last year...I know how you feel...save some money. Just get the loans...live nicely close to campus...graduate....pay it off just like everyone else does.
