Well I finally graduated from DAT forum to predental forum. Anyway I have an interview with NYU next month and I need some help/advice. It will be my first interview and the links for interview feedback are down so I was wondering if anyone could help. ANXiety is at all time high. MB

Dress up and look fantastic.
Relax and be yourself.

i haven't had an nyu interview (i am actually supposed to have one on 3/15 but i'm bailing)

Oh, and I would suggest journaling the answers to traditional interview questions. eg.

three strengths/weaknesses
are you prepared to live in this place?
what do you like about your school-review the school website
why dentistry
why you'd be a good dentist
how you deal with stress
best/worst thing you've ever done
favorite book/movie/play
who is your hero
prepare to explain anything on your transcript
review your aadsas essays

the point of that is to familiarize yourself with yourself.

Thanks Jes, anxiety has lowered now. Should I wear a a suit ?What are your suggestions as far as dressing up?? MB

Definitely wear a suit. I don't know if you are a girl or guy. If you are a guy, wear a tie. If you're a girl, don't wear a tie unless you have the outfit to make it work. 🙂 Wear shoes that are clean and polished (dress shoes) that match your belt/purse/suit. Make sure you hair looks good. Use crest whitestrips before hand (they make me feel more confident because I feel like people are judging my teeth too and i can notice a whiteness difference). Don't wear cologne/perfume unless it is really subtle. Get good sleep the night beforehand, don't go out partying because you are in NYC--go out after the interview. Drink lots of water and exercise and you will look fresh and clean. Hope that's not too much advice.
Jessica

Jes, thanks again. Do you know of any links where there would be some feedback as far as the interviews go. I would love to have every angle covered. I am male by the way , last time I checked..🙂....MB

This site has interview feedback information, just go to the home page and look at the column to your left. You will see a link that says "dental school interview feedback."

As for your interview jes1ca covered the basic questions that are asked over there.

Pay particular attention to the strengths and weaknesses question as it WILL be asked during the interview.

The most important thing is to be relaxed and personable during the interview no matter what. It is also of the utmost importance to dress well. This means dressing in a conservative manner with a nice white shirt and a nice conservative tie and of course a nice suit and polished shoes (if you're going to be in NYC a day early go to "European Shoe Repair" on 54th street between 5th and 6th avenues - your shoes will look better than they did on the day you bought them and polish is only $2.50).

They have different interviews there that can be really tough or really laid back. You must remain calm and pleasant no matter what. Also, remember to carry a pen as one person I spoke to was chided during his interview for not having a pen with him "at his age." Don't worry and take it easy, that is best thing you can do for yourself.

it will also help you a lot if you know about the school and its curr.

based on my experience, most of the schools were very happy and impressed that i knew about them.

good luck!
