so i got a NY invite yesterday, i called them today to schedule an interview. They said they have spots open for the 16th and 17th of this month or late January. So i opted for this friday, the 17th but now im freaking out because i dont think i have enough time to get ready, especially when i'm flying in from California. I essentially have tonight and tomorrow to get ready and i would have to leave early morning on Thursday and get there by Thursday night. I was hoping i would get at least a few weeks to prepare but late January is way too late so im not sure what to do. Should i call to reschedule or or do you think i'll be okay. Thanks in advance. :scared:

Why do you need that much time to prepare? Haven't you ever done an interview before? Job, school, etc...?

Truthfully, I spent very little time 'prepping' for my interviews and I was accepted at all 5 schools I interviewed at. I'm sure your interview depends a lot on who your interviewer is, but the one thing I can suggest for your NYU interview is to come with legit questions. For my interview I sat down and the interviewer spent about a third of our time telling me how great the school was, another third telling me how great i was, and finally asked if I had any questions. Had I not had any questions, my interview would have been very awkward. Although this may not be the case for your interview, all you really need to do is be yourself, and show them you have a personality. And come with questions that you cant find the answers to on the website!!

that makes me a feel a little better, thanks. 🙂

From what I hear, NYU is making decisions on everyone interviewing this week on Friday so you could potentially get a decision in the mail next week! I would definitely take this Friday, and I'll see you then 😉😀

I had my interview at NYU Dec 7th and it was less stressful that I though. It was just a conversation and he asked me many time if a had questions. You can see some questions they may ask you in the interview feedback on this page. Hope this helps. Wishing you the best.

Really? Is this confirmed? I have an interview there this week too, and this would make it a bit more nerve-wrecking/exciting at the same time haha

I can't say with absolute certainty that this is true, but this was discussed in another NYU thread.

I think I know which thread you are referring to, but I wasn't sure if it applied to the people interviewing this week. They mentioned that the staff will be on vacation starting next week. There are also interviews on Friday as well. It just seems like there is little time for them to make a decision in a short time on Friday, but then again, what do I know haha. Good luck to you!

You can definitely be ready by then. Go over your whole application, research the school on their website, answer the questions you see on interview feedback. I usually prep on the flight over, and I turned out okay. When I sat down my interviewer blatantly told me he didn't look at my app and took some time to casually peruse and ask me questions. It was the most casual interview I had and the guy had a nice dry sense of humor. You can do it! Be confident, be yourself!

sounds good...thanks to everybody. 👍

hey guys has anyone had Dr. Rochlen for the interview?

Hi System7,
I would NOT worry at all about having a few weeks to prep. You only need an hour or two - SERIOUSLY. IMO, schools already know who they want to accept - they just give the interview to see if you can talk for 15-20 minutes with another human being. B/c after your interview anyway - that person just writes you a short letter and it goes to the admissions committee so THOSE PEOPLE can vote on your ENTIRE application. If it was ONLY based on your interview - then almost everyone would get in...ie it's not the "weird, socially awkward ones" that get rejected. Many times, rejections happen after a GREAT interview - but perhaps the applicant pool was just really competitive that year, and they couldn't accept everyone/etc...or you didn't have the particular kind of things that school likes...the list is endless and so subjective.

You've already done the hard work - just relax now and show them your genuine passion for dentistry - and show them who the "real life" person is, as opposed to the paper version they've seen.

Bottom line - DO NOT stress. esp for NYU - I had my interview last month and it was REALLY chill. He was actually very supportive - and asked me why I liked the school. Then asked me if I had any questions. So, I spent the next 35-40 minutes asking away...and he ended with "Thank you for the interview - it was great telling you about myself!"...lol - so it was laid back, and you really do get to be yourself. (I got in - so, I think being myself did the trick!)...So - you'll do wonderfully, just don't stress...and think about why you're there in the first place. Prepare a few questions, think about why you like NYU, and have a few experiences on hand that have genuinely molded who you are today. Make it fun!

Good luck!
