Hello Everyone!

For those who interviewed at NY, was the interview one-on-one? Or did more than one person interview you?

Thank you very much!

1 to 1!!!! Professor was super nice, and we chatted a lot ^^ Good luck on ur interview!

it was one on one, the faculty were very cool and laid back. good luck.

For those of you with NYU interview, how long after you received the email stating your application was complete, did you receive an interview? I just received the application complete email today.

I received an e-mail on August 5th that my application is completed. And I received an invitation on Sep. 23rd.

Application complete email: August 22
Interview invite email: September 24 (best day of my life lol!!)

Hope we all get in 😀

I was actually also wondering...does an interview at NYU mean that one has a good chance of being accepted (so long as they don't make a fool of themselves) or does a lot depend on the interview?

for those of you who got an interview with NYU, did they cash your check yet? I sent them my check back in July but they haven't cashed my check yet.. I wonder if this is why I have not heard back from them. Or it could also be that my LOR's were not sent out by AADSAS until 9/22...

I'm getting really worried.

NYU is one of those schools who interview a lot of people....so not necessarily a good chance.....there are many many schools where an interview gives you a better chance than at NYU

True. 600 interviewed a year.

so not necessarily a good chance.....

Not true. NYU even accepts people who didn't interview. 2007 Total: 600 interviewed, 648 accepted. 400 out-of-state interviewed, 516 accepted. So you're pretty much in if you have a pre-Dec 1st interview and don't monumentally f*ck up.

Not true. For an out-of-stater, there aren't many schools that an interview gives you a better chance than NYU. UoP is one of them. I couldn't name another one of the top of my head.

If you talk to anyone who goes to NYU or their admissions office, they don't do that anymore. You have to interview for a spot now.

Noted. but that wasn't really my point, my point was that interview/acceptance ratio at NYU is high. Possibly not as high as prior years (we'll have to wait for the new statistics to come out), but there is no information out there that says that there is not a good chance to get in based on interview/acceptance data, no evidence to suggest that there are many schools with a higher interview-to-acceptance ratio than NYU. Of course I could be wrong because they are doing things differently this year, but no one could know that until the data comes out next year.

You are probably right...I re-looked at the stats of NYU....I had this conception that they interviewed a lot more than they accepted...but it doesn't seem so. And after looking harder, it seems the reason why they accept so many is because it seems NYU isn't many people's top choices so they don't have a high matriculation rate...so getting accepted after an interview probably isn't that bad to do as long as you don't screw it up like you said.

Any insight on why NYU isn't regarded as highly among dental schools for applicants? Their massive class size might be a turnoff for some...what are some other main reasons?

Thx.

I heard a rumor that they axe some of their students who don't perform after their first year...two of my friends who are in dental school said this to me...I am yet to be able to confirm this though. Also while looking at the interview feedback, there are a lot of misconceptions about NYU out in the dental community that I guess aren't true now...you can gain a better insight in why people didn't look highly upon NYU there.

yeah lol I think it's hilarious that there are so many rumors circulating about NYU.. there's almost a mythology behind the school lol.

btw did you know that on the first day of lectures, the new dental students at NYU have to pass around a beaker of the professor's piss, and they all have to stick their index finger in at, lick it, and then pass it around? If you refuse, you get kicked out. True story. About 20 people get kicked out every year as a result. True story.

yes, they get axed because they're failing and didn't take the opportunities for academic help from the student affairs office. adcom and students on the tour dispel this myth.
case in point, even in real world, if you just slacked off at your job and didn't even do the bare minimum that keeps you employed, wouldn't you expect to be let go?

Wow so it is true. Well it is common sense that if you don't do your part, you should get let go, but why is it NYU has the reputation of the students getting axed early on while other schools don't is what strikes my curiosity. I have nothing against NYU, that is why I applied there and want to go there. Just seems a little strange to me at times, but I will go to the interview open-minded and see for myself how the school is.

After reading a lot of sdn nyu stuff, my perspective of NYU is that it's the "bad guy" now.. I applied there regardless.

I think that the tuition and high cost of living in NYC also have something to do with ppl going to other schools if given a cheaper alternative.

Hey guys,
That is a myth. If you don't get yourself together early on, you will get "axed." However if you do what a competent professional should be doing (studying the right amount, doing your lab work to the best of you ability, putting in the time into things you're deficient in), then there is no reason you should fail anything especially dental school. yeah first semester is hard. Its only been a month and we're feeling the pressure in lab and didactic as well. Midterms are coming up and we're all scared as hell but I don't think anyone has the mindset of "I just have to pass". We all pass. 1 person failed last year (what I've heard around school...)

Its a great school just a LITTLE too expensive if you know what I mean.

Thanks for your feedback. I have an interview late October and I am very excited to visit NYU. I heard they have great facilities and they are really good in terms of clinics! Anyway, good luck on your midterms.

Did all of the interviews start at 8AM we did not have any choice right?

8AM at NYU College of Dentistry - 345 E. 24th Street, New York, NY 10010?

it's first come, first serve (starting at 8 am), with the order determined on when you hand in the 1 page, short questionnaire/secondary. some people came well after 8, but pretty much all interviews done by ~10, then its the tour, etc.

Hey guys,
I guess I misquoted before. 3 People were lost last year due to attrition (non-specific, could have transferred or repeated a year?). This is coming directly from an academic adviser, so I would take my word for it - attrition rate is VERY low at NYU and passing courses is pretty easy... its doing good that really puts the great students ahead. We get ranked at the end of the year, and so far it has been pretty competitive.

Overall, IMO, amazing school if you can afford the tuition and lifestyle NY has to offer. As a Canadian, I feel very welcome here and have not had a problem adjusting at all. I'm sure the 100 something Californians would agree with me as well.

Back to my chain of sleepless nights (be prepared for that, whatever school you go to). Dental school isn't easy, but it still stands that once you're in, you're good to go. Still feels like hell though 🙁

So I got to the 8:00am interview at 7:40am, and most people had either finished their interview, or at least arrived before me. Get there early! More on NYU later, it really blew me away; none of the rumors are true and it's really an amazing school.

might have seen you today, we were in nagle when they brought the interviewees in. we wanted to tell you guys to learn all about the vitamins if you plan on coming to NYU. We have a midterm on monday in biochem and it is turning out to be a nightmare cuz of vitamins and their structures etc.

How early should I go there? 7am??
Is there waiting room where I can sit before the interview?
