I've heard rumors that due to the damage Sandy cause, the NYU pediatric residency program is closing down and that all their residents are attempting to transfer to other programs. Has anyone heard anything?

That's crazy... I think the director would've sent the invited interviewers an email about it then...

I don't think much of anything is working at the moment seeing as the hospital was so severely damaged in the storm... Fellow applicants have tried e-mailing and calling but no response. Has anyone gotten in contact with them since the storm?

Many of the residents have been relocated to affiliated hospitals. I live in the area
There is no updates on when NYU will be running again, but it is doubtful it will effect next years class

The program is not shutting down. The residents are just being sent to other institutions until the hospitals open again so that they aren't sitting around idle and losing training time. This is not just peds but all nyu residencies and fellowships. These types of rumors are completely unfounded. I do think the interview season may be a bit delayed, but otherwise it shouldn't affect applicants.

I'm so glad! I felt realy bad for the residents. Hopefully, they'll be up and running pretty soon. Nothing to be done for all of that research lost though... poor PhDers.

NYU peds resident here... we are just at other NYC institutions for the time being.
In fact, had drinks & tacos with several co-interns tonight. We have a 1/2 day educational conference tomorrow AND karaoke on Saturday night.

Got an email from nyu. Recruitment starts up again in December.
