WOW, still interviewing at NYU? It's mid JUNE! Being this late, you'll find out next week I bet! Good luck!

hey guys and gals. I am new to the forum and have just decided to go into dentistry. I was wodnering if I would have any chance of admission into NYU witha 3.3 g.p.a, a 3.85 science g.p.a, and a year of working for a dentist. I have not taken the DAT's yet becasue I just recently finished my sciences and am taking a year off to study for them . Originally, I was planning on becoming a alwyer (got a 176 on my lsat) but I feel that dentistry is the career for me now. Aside for the money, job security, unbelievable flexible working hours, and helping people look and feel good with their oral healthcare, and the other perks, I have had this burning desire to become a dentist becasue I feel it will allow me to get professional and personal satisfaction that no other field could allow me. This is where I need some advice. I have only taken two parts of the DAT: the reading comp and and the math part and got a 30, and 24, respectively. I hope I can score a 20+ on the sciences too wih much hard work and studying. However, I have the hadrest time with the PAT. Although I get some questions right, the majroity of the time I do not know whats flying especially witht eh Cube counting and the punching holes problems. I would appreciate it if anybody could giv eme any advice as to what would ym chances would be provided I score 20/20 on the DAT/PAT and some specific suggestions as toh ow to tackle the PAT. Thanks I appreciate any advice.

Its pretty easy to get into NYU, and with your stats, without a doubt.

how do you go from wanting to be a lawyer to wanting to be dentist? just curious.

Nice LSAT! I only got a 171 🙁

This was back when I had a brief flirtation with being a JAG for about a year. I realized that even though I am good at lawyer-type stuff, I really don't enjoy it and couldn't stand either the military or large-firm environment.

Dentistry is much easier on the life than law. A lot of lawyers are bagging groceries these days anyway. With your LSAT, you could have gone to a good school and likely avoided that, but still.

I shudder at the idea of 80 hour workweeks like the new large firm associates have. Sure, they make about 125K starting, but the hourly blows compared to dentistry. Besides, we will have time to pursue politics and such on the side, if we really love to argue 🙂

hey unsure student - If you perform well on the DAT and give a good interview, I'd say that you would have a really really good shot at NYU. 😉

RupeshV - I interviewed for NYU on November 1st (also with Amy Knowles 🙂 ) and heard back from them on December 7th. But as Yah-E said, it may not take nearly that long for you to hear back, since it is already June.
Good luck!!!
