Hi, I've been accepted at NYUCD and I'm trying to look for a place to stay. Anyone needs a roommate please let me know. I'm male, Asian, considerate, and fairly clean. Thanks

I'm from California and currently attending UCLA. I am interested in an apt off campus since the price for a dorm is a little bit too high for me. And I also would prefer to have my own room, so if anyone has a room to share, please let me know.

Yay! A fellow Bruin! Congrats on your acceptance.

How much was the dorm at NYU?

yeah i went to UCLA as well. i've sent in my deposit for the dorms, but i'd prefer a cheaper apartment, with my own room, just like you. I've looked a bit but haven't found much. Ideally the closer to school the better, and i'd like to pay under 1,000 a month if possible. Have you found anything? i'd be interested in getting an apt.

I'm in the same boat. I graduated from UCLA in the summer of '05. Turned in my housing app/deposit but haven't heard back yet. Wouldn't mind getting an apartment instead.

wow, lotta UCLA people got into NYU 😱

are the dorms really over $1,000/month? DOes that include meals?

Yep, over $1,000 and that's even for a shared studio. I don't think it includes meals either, but I'm not sure. Manhattan is expensive...a Big Mac Combo is like $7 too. 👎

I'm not sowthpaw4, but the deposit is $1,000. I don't remember when exactly I sent it, but I think it was at the beginning of last week.

from what i saw, over 1,000 a month most liekly, with no meal plan or anything. thats the standard for graduate students

Dorms are 1850 a month, no meal plans, it's 2 bedrooms per unit with a small "foyer"/kitchenette/bathroom per.

If you're going to signing your own lease it's best to find several people to divvy up a multiple bedroom apartment and share to manage the cost of rent. Generally if you want a studio nearby expect 1600+.

Cheapest option is subletting, get a map of the area, check out craigslist, and often you can find a room to rent for not too expensive. I'm subletting a room less than 2 minutes away from school for 1400 including utilities, and I have friends who are subletting for ~1000.

Do we get our deposits back in mid June if we don't get a space in the dorms? Thanks.

Oh my god are u kidding??? 1850 a month... :wow:
How bout the shared studio i thought that was for like 1000 a month or something.... could someone clear me on that coz otherwise i really need to start looking for an apartment....

All 26th street dorms are 2 bdrooms (1 person per bedroom) 1 bath without living rooms except for an entrance/kitchenett/foyer combo. I don't know what shared studios you speak of... sharing a studio?? Obviously it would be cheap if you were willing to share an actual bedroom...

hey phremius, is that 1850$ a month each or split.

The grad. housing application that I received had that option of shared studio, u had to write down the name and nyu id of the other dent student u'd like to share the studio with.... they said that the annual cost for living in a shared studio would come to around 10,000 for a period of 10 months....
I remember seeing it on the housing website too that 26 street dorms have shared studios..... here is the link....

http://www.nyu.edu/housing/residence.halls/

I'm still wondering what the $1850 is about???

The time amount for the dorm is NOT the full lenght of the dental school semester, it's the full lenght of the regular NYU undergrad session, so at the end you would have to extend your stay. I don't know what they mean by the "shared studios", everyone in my class that's at 26th street has the 2 rooms per bathroom/kitchenette unit, so if that's what they mean, the 1850/mo is the number that it apparently averages out per month to stay in the dorms. Basically dorms is the expensive but probably most "stress free" option for first years.

hey guys, NYU sent me the dorm application but thing is they didnt send me my UID # and I have to send the application in pretty soon because June 1st is the deadline. Where do we get this ID? It is Sat today so I cannot even call them for it. Thanks guys
