Got off the waitlist for NYU a few days ago.

Is it worth the extra 15k / year?

I like both schools and have lived extensively in both manhattan and out by stony brook (and either is fine with me).

Heres my analysis:
NYU
Bellevue!! (im considering EM)
P/F system
better name/recognition (i might consider getting out of state residencies)

Stony Brook
Somewhat lacking 3rd & 4th year rotations
I get to keep my cars (I love to drive)
Lower tuition (and living expenses)

Any other input, or people making or who have made the same decisions?

Your analyis seems pretty accurate. Keep in mind that although debt can be a big deal, you're gonna have alot either way you go. You'll pay it off fine; Don't base your decision on price alone.

Why on earth would you want to live in boringland (Long Island) just so you could drive a car? Especially when the alternative is one of the best parts of the most exciting city in the country?

lol.. i was afraid that someone would say that..

but as i stated before, ive spent a considerable amount of time in NYC and Long Island (as well as many other metro areas like Dallas, DC, etc).. so I've already seen what I want to see in the 'going out, partying' phase of my life... (I worked/travelled for 5 years prior to med school)

My idea of a good time these days is taking my cars on some twisty roads on a nice sunny day..

For me, the detriment (or benefit?) of SB would be that most of my friends/family/SO are on Nassau/Queens/Brooklyn.. but its not SO far that I can't visit once every 2 weeks or so. So I'd call the location a wash for me..

I'm just trying to decide if I can be just as competitve coming out of SB as I would coming out of NYU... and if not, if that is worth 100k
