I am trying to decide between Wagner MPA and Columbia MPH Health Policy and Management. Ultimate goal is health care consulting. Any insight into job placement/recruitment at either schools? Thanks!

Hi Katie, I actually work at NYU Wagner, and I was so glad to see your post. That's a really great question and I'd love to connect you with a couple of current NYU Wagner students who recently secured jobs in healthcare consulting. Just send a quick email to [email protected] mentioning this conversation, and they can connect you and answer any other questions you may have. I've given them a heads up that you may be reaching out. Thanks so much, Rachel

Hi, I am also in the same predicament, with a different MPH program. Although I think I am leaning towards Wagner. From my understanding there is not much difference if you want to do health policy at Wagner vs health policy in MPH, is this accurate? I also like Wagner's connections in the non profit area, as well as being able to take courses in other programs like Stern or the NYU MPH program. Any insight would be great, thanks.

The big consulting firms do come to Columbia to recruit in the fall for internships (Deloitte, PWC) and it's competitive. I never wanted to pursue that route but from my peers that did, if you are in the health policy analysis track at Mailman, you probably aren't going to learn the skills you need. Some courses in management are for HPM management students only.

Though if that is what you really want to do, why not pursue MBA or MHA?

NYU Wagner now has Sherry Glied as the Dean which is a plus, she left Columbia last year to do that.
