I was just waitlisted at NYU but it seems like EVERYONE that is not accepted just gets put on the waitlist. How does it actually work at this school? Thanks!

What are your stats?

OK forget it. I just found your stats. You have pretty good stats. I can't believe you got waitlisted.

The 15 is on your pat or total science of the DAT?

How do you know that you are waitlisted?
Did you call?

I am currently waitlisted at NYU...as of last year (June 1) and I am still waitlisted (as are others on SDN) to this day. No news so far...but the nice thing is as a waitlisted student we dont have to come back to interview (interviewed 3/04) this cycle.

I have a 3.30 BCP...3.42 science gpa...3.15 overall gpa

18/17/16 AA/TS/PAT

Amy emailed me to send in my grades as soon as possible, but no word. Honestly, from what I had previously thought...it was good to be on NYUs waitlist...but last year they didnt take anyone off the list. Things could be different this year, who knows?

Good luck.

Hey how do you know they didn't take anyone off of the waitlist last year? Mrs. Knowles told you that?

.

That could also be a bad thing if you F'd up your interview.

My interview went really well...so I know I didnt fu$$ it up....that and the person who interviewed me was in his 6th year of his residency (OMS) and he said he would recommend to the committee to admit me (and showed me that he checked off "admit" on his list questions to ask, etc.) He understood my situation as we had similar backgrounds....however.....apparently it wasnt enough to convince the entire admission committee. Last cycle I also had a lower DAT....that probably was the main reason. Dentist 2 Be.....that is what I was told...maybe some were taken off the waitlist without my knowing it.

yes..if you had lower than a 17 total science dat mark then that was probably the reason you didn't get admitted. dat is becoming more and more of a factor in the decision making process it seems..probably because gpa is highly subjective while the dat is standardized.

From what I know, the period in which you are not in the know of what is going on can be MONTHS so be patient.

At an interview I was asked,
"What do you feel is more important and more representative of your academic abilities, GPA or DAT score?"
My answer was, "It's comparing 4 years to 4 hours"
The adcom said that she completely agreed.. and I was HAPPY to hear it, as my DAT was nothing fabulous.
It's not that I am "Against" the DAT, but I do not think that your DAT should outweigh your academic performance. Just an opinion.
