Is there anyone out there who attended the NYU Post-bacc pre-med program?

I'm finishing some pre-med classes at NYU (not officially in the post-bacc program because I did most of what I needed to do in undergrad), but I do know a lot of people in the program. Have questions?

If cost is a concern for you, check out Hunter and SUNY Stonybrook. They both have decent post bacc programs. (at stony, it is unstructured though, so you just sign up for whatever pre-req classes you need)

Hi, NYU offered me a place in their postbacc and I haven't managed to talk to a prehealth advisor there yet.

Some of the questions I am planing to ask them,and maybe you might have a unique perspective on them as well:

Am I guaranteed a spot in each class/lab that I must take?

Can I get research experience?

Is there a greater acceptance rate at NYU Med School for graduates of this postbac program or of NYU's prehealth program in general?

Do they and if so how do they prep students for the MCAT?

Does the schedule lighten up at the end to allow study time for the MCAT?

Who writes the letters of recommendation, is it a committee letter, and how do we get to know these people?

i dont know what others experience wit NYU concerning their postbacc program is but i found it very very annoying and heres why.
This past december i have sent out all my applications to various schools including NYU for post bacc programs. 4 months later, here i am and I STILL have not heard anything from NYU concerning my application. In fact, i began to call that school up like 2 months ago to find out whats up with my application and every freaking time i talk to someone they keep telling me that my application is being "processed" ( whatever thats supposed to mean) Im my opinion that just means that we(nyu) have your application somewhere in our buildings but havent cared enough to open it yet. Well to make a long story short, i got accepted to other postbacc programs at other schools and i needed to make a decision on where i was gonna enroll for the summer. Basically i was waiting till i heard back from NYU but becuase of their poor managment over there wit my application i had to enroll at a different school. Nonetheless i was pretty pissed at NYU. I called them many many times to find out any updates as to the status of my application for the past 2 months and every time is the same BS story, its being "processed" right now. Well, i got fed up wit waiting and told them i wanted to cancel my application and at LEAST get a refund on my application fee. They told me that they had to make some calls and talk to some people to get that done and that they would get back to me. Fine. I waited and waited and a month later still nothing. I kepted calling them each week for the past month again to find out if im gonna get a refund on my application fee and only tilll today i finally found out from calling them again that my application is still being "processed???" and that they were not able to give me a refund. I asked if i can get the number to the financial aid office or whoever handles that responsibility and they tell me "sorry that number is not accessible to the public??"
Im still very pissed at NYU and i expected ALOT more from them and more professionalism. No where in the applications did it say "no refunds" on the application fee. They make me wait 4 months and they still dont have an answer for me as to whether or not i got accepted or rejected? I told the person i talked to on the phone blantly that i think that NYU has my application somewhere in their buildings and I bet that NOONE has even touched my application envelope yet in these past 4 months and that im pretty pissed. I felt very cheated out of my money and time and at the least i was hoping they would refund my check but being the crooks that they are just stole my money and gave me no answer as to my acceptance or rejection.
Sorry for the long post. I hope others who have applied to NYU post bacc this year did not have to go through the same BS as i have.

Exactly! If you're anything like me u are prolly pissed at NYU too. I feel like they acted like crooks and just conned me out of my money. I totally did not expect something like this from a school like NYU.

hello, first and foremost i'm sorry to hear about your experience and i understasnd how that can be frustrating. quite surprise how your experience had turned out. this is because i had the exact opposite. i handed my application end of january and received a response- praise God! i received an acceptance letter to the premed post bac program just earlier this week; reflecting back on it--it only took 2-3 wks of processing the application. i did however, checked up on my application status once and was told that it is being "processed" at this time and i was also checking into to see if the recommendation letters have arrived. something to ponder also is if the professors/work supervisors that you have requested to send your recommendation letters did just that, and may be that is also a factor in being in the situation that you were in; but, you know what? it's a blessing to even have the opportunity to pursue your dream of becoming a physician whether at NYU or elsewhere--it's where you're supposed to be. take care and God bless

I finished NYU post-bacc, and could answer some questions.

1. You will get into all classses and labs. You might not get your first choice for lab times, but you will get into a lab. If they fill up, a new section opens.

2. The NYU list serve emails you lots of research/volunteer oportunites. This was very helpful.

3. For the NYU med school thing- NO!

4. Most of us took the kaplan course for mcat review. There is nothing in terms of on-campus mcat review.

5. I did not feel that the course load lightened in april. But, because you are permitted to drop one chem test grade- that was the one. You could also take the aug. mcat (which most post-baccs did but not me) in which case you will not be in class.

6. Your advisor writes a committe letter. You do get to know them throughout the process and they have 2 interviews with you to write the letter.

I was happy for the most part with NYU. Hope this helps!
