Fellow Colleagues!
I just graduated from a US optometry school this year and I am moving to London. Does anyone know anything about optometry or how to get licensed to be an optometrist in London, if anyone can help me with any information regarding optometry in London, how to get licensed over there if you graduated from an US optometry school that would be great, I hope someone answers this post. I am getting frustrated and hopeless!

PLEASE HELP!!!

From my knowledge, practicing optometry in anywhere but America and maybe one or two provinces in Canada is like being a refractive optician.

It isn't going to be easy. It never is when trying to practice in a new country. Have you found the UK College of Optometrists webpage yet?

Look here.

My brief reading shows that you will need to have a year of unsupervised practice in the US recorded in some sort of log book. You will also need to pass an exam - it seems the exam is half practical and half oral. Doesn't look fun.

Good luck!

UK allows full scope optometry to be practiced. Get in contact with the GOC/college of optometrists to see what steps are needed to get your license over there.

I grew up in London and visit frequently, absolutely love it. Best of luck!

Hi there ,
Thanks for the positive hope I have been doing researcha nd GOC comes up first but having aterrible time getting a response from them. You mentioned in UK optometrists have full scope of optometry , could you be a bit more detail like do they do DPE, TPE, referrals. So far people keep telling me in UK optometrists are glorified optometrists is that true.I am really scared about this transition and I really don't know where to start! Please help
