Hi guys,

I'm taking the OAT for the first time next week and not feeling very confident. In fact, I think that scoring the minimum required is going to be a miracle. I have no excuse for this b/c I just kept putting off studying for it. My GPA is good so I got interviewed at 2 schools, both of which say they'll need to see my OATs be at least 300 b/f accepting me for sure.

So my question is what to do if I get lower than 300. I'll definately retake it (and study harder), but do you think calling up the schools and asking if they could wait for my next set of scores would do any good? Would they hold my file until the new scores come in (which won't be until late March b/c of the no-retaking-the-test-until-90s-days-have-passed rule) or bump me from the list? Anyone been in the same situation?

Hey, If you really don't feel ready I'd rebook it and start studying like crazy. That way you wont have to wait 3 months. Your scores might be in later than they would be if you didn't defer, but a lot earlier than 3 months. Schools seem to be filling up, id postpone and study so you feel confident. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Another problem is that the schools now expect me to take the exam in Dec b/c they specifically asked me when I'd take it. I don't know if it'd be better to (1) postpone for a month and do ok on it, or (2) bomb, retake in 3 months and then do very well? It's been many years since I was in college so I need at least another 6 weeks to even do ok. Sigh. I should have started earlier.

I wouldn't worry about that unless it actually happens. Thats NEGATIVE thinking and I'm sure you will do great!!! I think everybody is scared and that nobody actually feels they are truly prepared.

You have studied, and I am sure you will surprise yourself with what you actually know!! You are going to do awesome. Have some confidence in yourself 👍

ETA - if you reschedule, you will have to stress about it your entire Christmas, and how much more will you really learn?
