You guys, I need your help in making a decision. So I have applied to optometry schools already and have not yet taken the OAT. I am currently taking an OAT Kaplan course but it is going by so fast and I am struggling to keep up and practice tests along the way. When talking to admissions counselors (ie; SCCO) they are encouraging me to take the OAT as early as possible (easier said than done). Well, I finish the course the 28th of Oct. and I was considering taking the OAT in Oct. 30. If I take the test in say November 14, to allow time to go over everything and practice tests..do you think I would be considered late in the game although I have already sent in my applications, etc. And is it true it takes 3 weeks for schools to receive scores? What would you guys do?

Thank you,

Hello

I am in the same boat as you, my course finishes the 24th, and i was planning to take the test the 27th to be able to retake it in 3 months in case it wont be high enough. The schools that i have called have told me that mid november is still alright ,except indiana. They need the scores to be submitted by mid november, otherwise you cannot apply for 2007.

also another problem is taking the exam in 3 months. One of my number 1 choice schools wont take any oat scores after feb 28th, so in order for me to be able to try again just in case, i would have to take the test end of october.

From the information that i got so far, if you call a school and tell them your situation and they tell you to take the exam as soon as possible than i guess they know how quickly their seats are filled.

but if you really think about it, there is only a 2 week difference in time, but that could make all the difference for studying and doing better.

JG

good luck..:luck:
