Hi,
I just wrote my OAT two days ago! I have a very low GPA 2.8 but I worked super hard on my OAT and my scores are decent (I think?). I have worked at my university as a research assistant, curriculum developer and now my current job is related to lens fibrosis research. I have job shadowed since grade 11. (currently entering my last year of undergrad). I need some advice as to what schools I can consider? Eventhough i have a low GPA. I am from Canada but will be applying all across states. (pretty much any where I can get in :$)

RC- 330
Bio- 360
Gchem- 390
OChem- 330
Physics- 330
QR- 380

TS-350
AA-350

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Good job on the OAT! Those are above avg. scores and improved your chances considerably. However, your GPA might limit your options in terms of schools. I know one in Arizona has minimum 2.75 GPA requirement so you should definitely apply there. Do your research some schools won't even look at your application if you are below certain GPA some are more forgiving. Make sure your LOR and EC are well taken care off. Try to bring your GPA to a 3.0 by the time you graduate then will make you competitive in most schools ..good luck! I am from Canada too.

Wow you killed that chemistry! You go! I wish I could get a chem score like that, I can't even start half the questions! I for sure agree with the above post, definitely getting that 3.0 would make you a lot more competitive. I too am from Canada and am aiming to be that one special applicant at Berkeley - a long shot, I know. I would be more than ecstatic if I got into my 2nd 3rd and 4th choices as well. All of them are great schools... but they're all American! I feel your pain.

I think your scores show how hard you have been working. If they ask about your improvement, explain that you have been working hard at your interview. I think they will take that into consideration, and it's not like it's just words - you have the scores to prove it.

Good luck!! Keep us Canadians posted!

Hi, thank you for the advice
I just checked I do have a 3.0! Another question, if I want to apply for Fall 2012 when is a good time to start the applications for the schools? (States)
As for the scores, my advice would be to just practice practice and practice. You can tell I am not naturally smart but practice does really help! I used OAT destroyers and achiever tests!

Start your application now. OptomCAS opens in July so you could have had it in back then, so now the sooner the better. Also, most schools work on rolling admissions (Berkley doesn't but I think all others do) so they will admit people as they find ones they like. That means that the sooner you get your applications in front of them the more likely they have spots open. Don't do what I did and wait until Christmas break to get your stuff in. Do it early, especially the letters of recommendation (because you will most likely have to hound people to get them in) and your personal statement (because it takes a lot of work to get it where it needs to be).
