I took it today and I studied for about a month and a half and I did have the 1200 page Kaplan OAT book and an examkrackers MCAT set. I realized the Kaplan book was definitely the best asset for studying for the test. My scores were not as good as I expected in some categories. I definitely felt time crunch in the QR section and RC. More practice in those would've been better for sure. However, these scores are probably good enough to get into Nova or SCO with the GPA and other credentials I have. Just have to tell the committee possibly about the RC.

TS: 350
AA: 330
RC: 280 --> Head felt like mush after the 100 question test and I never practiced reading three passages only did two passage Kaplan exams. Also, this is the only thing I took practice tests for which doesn't make any sense!

So overall, I did fine but not stellar and should be fine in the fall.

Arent those super awesome scores?? Im kinda stressing out these days...i feel sooo overwhelmed with all the material to learn..im not too good at quantitative reasoning so far..im doing the kaplan course and i find the quant reasoning in the online workshops so tedius! But yea..it seems like everyone on these forums get AMAZING scores..and im starting to wonder..does anything do BAD on the oat?? Or is it just good scorers that post on here?? I guess it keeps me really optimistic and i keep thinking its standard and im gonna do just as well! but then again i could be completely dreaming!

My friends writing the MCAT and DAT study aloottt and still sometimes dont do welll..so thats why im just wondering why everyone on here does so good on the oat..

From what I've heard, average is 300. I havent taken the kaplan course, but it seems to me like the QR section is much like SAT stuff. You can find practice everywhere online, and if you do enough problems you'll be able to do all the OAT ones. The Kaplan course takes you very far into detail to make you understand the whole concept, so thats why everything is tedius. I know some people who dont do the homeworks they give and just work on the tests and study and do fine..

oh by the way seminole,
during the exam were you allowed pencil/paper? i've read that you're allowed a whiteboard...

Yeah, thanks for replying guys I was hoping people would. I posted my scores regardless of how well I scored because I'm honest and I want people to see that people do do worse than a 370 lol. I think most people will only report their scores on here if they do stellar. I haven't seen too many scores but the ones I have seen are close to 370 AA and above. To answer your guys questions: For the pencil and paper, yes you get it and you get a pink booklet of like 5 blank pages. Make sure you grab like 3 pencils because the ones they had were the old school No. 2. If they break you have to get up and waste time. No GOOD there. It may differ per testing site but they will provide with the essentials. You need every minute. And yes, I was super overwhelmed like 2 days beforehand (the worst is right before you take the exam). I had the 1200 page Kaplan book so I tried to know that the best I could just by reading and writing. Writing ideas down helps A LOT. You know how you understand something and then you come up with an easy phrase to remember it? Well write it down. If you guys have the KAPLAN book, the "In A Nutshell" sections are the best for learning.
Not everyone does well on the OAT you definitely need to study hard to get a competitive score. The questions could pertain to what you focused on and you will do very well or it could be something totally different. You have to set your focus on something because of the amount of info. For me, I got a number of questions were I was like "WTF?" they seemed so off the wall; this only really happened in the biology section. There's just so much to cover in that. When are you guys writing the OAT? O also I didn't take a full length practice test. I kinda did twice but didn't time myself strictly. Good luck! If you're going to Nova or SCO in 09, maybe I'll see you or meet you! 🙂

Hey

Im not writing the OAT until August 27th..so I still have alot of time..Ive been studying most days monday-friday from 9-5 everyday...hopefully that'll be enoough to get me a good score on test day.

9-5, that's awesome! I need that kind of dedication once I start really cracking down in December, but right now, I'm just kind of being a bum 'cause I'm not taking it til either next Spring Break or Summer 😛

I only studied like 2-3 hours a day maybe on a good day for a month and a half. The whole time I've been taking a very time consuming upper level chemistry lab so I studied off an on. I got a lot done on Saturdays usually. I studied a lot but didn't put 9-5 days in. I took a lot of brain breaks etc. and played bball for exercise.

WOW, I wish I had your kind of determination. I TRY to study all day, but I end up getting about 2 (not even decent) study hours in a day...and I plan on taking my OAT towards the end of August as well. Most likely I'll be cramming for 12 hours a day the week before..haha
