I'm a foreign med student born in the US that did not match in OB. I tried to scramble, but unfortunately all the positions filled. I have filled out an FAR only for OB/GYN. My heart is set on that field. Any ideas/advice as to what I should do from here? Should I wait and hope a PGY 1 spot opens up later and try to do some volunteer/shadow work in the meantime? I have scrambled for a few positions in other fields, but it makes me sick thinking that I may actually have to work in those fields. If another field wants me to sign with them, should I and then try again for OB in another year? Please help!

The match is tough for us IMG's.. I'm sorry you did not match this year. I would suggest taking whatever residency you can get this year whatever it may be, because it will only strengthen your application for next year. Good luck.

I joined the FAR and resident swap sites. The FAR site is good until September 1st. I haven't gotten into another residency for a different specialty yet. I was planning on waiting until mid August and then hoping something would open up in OB. If nothing does, then I was planning on applying for IM or family during mid August. Any advice? Should I just apply for that now? I've heard positions open up later, but is it worth taking a chance?
