Hey I have a question regarding Medicine Residency. When your doing your medical residency do they move you around to different locations? How does it work? I am asking for my wife, she is in medical school in Poland (she will be a IMG and will have written her USMLE-1 and USMLE-2 there) and when she gets back we are planning to move to America and she is going to do her Ob/Gyn residency. So is she going to be moved around to a bunch of different hospitals (like 1/year) or what? Any help or info would be appreciated.

Once she starts a residency she shouldnt have to move around. Most residencies are affiliated with 1 or 2 hospitals. Some programs do have several hospital they work with; however, for the most part they are usually close by, driving distance that is. There is a lot of variation with all this but when she interviews it should be all clear. They will tell you everything up front as far as if there are more than 1 hospital the residents go to...but overall, I'd say most residencies work at 1 hospital and sometimes maybe 2, like a VA.
I am assuming you mean when you get to the States shes going to be doing a residency NOT her 3rd or 4th years of medical school right?

Yeah, once she starts her residency. I heard on some other forum that you are moving around quite a bit. Like one hospital in one city for a few months then another hospital in a potentially different city for a few months. That would be difficult as I cannot move around like that. I dont think most people could.

Yes, it should be only a few hospitals pretty close to each other. Find out on scutwork.com or from the programs she applies to what hospitals the program is affiliated with and how far from each other they are.

Make this a consideration when she ranks the programs in the Match.

She will need to come to the states for a few months of her senior year to do some clinicals to get US experience. And that could require moving to different cities. But once residency starts, you're in the same city for the duration. SOme programs might have a satellite office 60 miles out or something she'll rotate for 1 month, but no big deal. GL
