Ok, this is not going to be a war on which presidential candidate is better. BUT, what will happen to OD's pay if either is elected. If Clinton is proposing free healthcare, do you think that will drive down the cost that insurance companies pay, therefore OD's making less money? Or could it be since there are so many more patients with healthcare, OD's will see an increase? Or does any of this have any effect on the field at all. Same with Obama and his proposed plan. His isn't universal like Hillary's.

*AGAIN, this is NOT a debate on presidency*

You are joking, right? What a pointless thread. It's doubtful any of the candidates will affect your potential income. Ask that question in four years, after you've graduated. Why are so many pre (fill in the blank) students concerned about things 3-4 years in the future? Jesus.

Why are we concerned three to four years from now? Because the PRESIDNET HOLDS A POSITION FOR 4 YEARS. Unless you want to contribute to the thread...STFU.

I think it's a justiable question. Obviously healthcare is being pushed HEAVILY in the election and I wondered how universal healthcare would affect Optometry.

Should students NOT be concerned about things 3-4 years in the future? Hope you don't offer any advice to real students.

Students should definately be concerned about things 3-4 years in the future but on an issue like this, they should think in a much broader context because the political reality of this is that what the candidates say now during a Democratic primary is not likely to be what they say during a general election which is also not likely to be what they say once they are elected.

Any plan that they propose is going to have go through the meat grinder that is congress, so there is a high probability that the final product (assuming that there even IS a final product) will bear little or no resemblance to what they push today.

Think broadly.....

Great question. If you didn't post it I would have sooner or later...

This is the way I see it...

Focus on what you want, the way you want things to be, and focus positively.

If you choose to focus on the fact that things will be BAD for optometrists after/during Obama or Hillary than guess what- Things will be bad for you!

If you choose to focus on the fact that things will be GOOD for optometrists after/during Obama or Hillary than guess what- Things will be GOOD for you!

It seems mystical, spiritual and full of **** but I am a firm believer in the general law of attraction. Even if things do get MESSED up bad from their presidency, my focus on the good will steer me around the mess and back up the ladder.

As far as details, specifics, and making a change go- I will read up, and make my voice heard.

Overall, what you focus on and think about you will receive.

Yeah...uuh, thanks for that. What I was trying to say was that what either of the candidates says today is most likely NOT what will they will do if elected. Why worrry about this now? No matter how much they talk, it's doubtful they will do much about health care. Who knows, I might be way off on this, but I suspect the country's horrid economy will take precedent over health care issues for the next few years.

How much any professional will make is not something you can easily predict from who's in office. Supply, demand, scope of practice, and insurance reimbursement, and market location (and your personal debt-to-income ratio)often are more compelling factors when computing future income.

I would bet that IF either candidate is elected and proposed legislation that would ultimately effect reimbursment rates through health insurance...you will see an unsual alliance and rally of polital action committees of several health professions to prevent such from happening(or at least lessen the effects on reimbursement rate cuts).
