I know someone who got into both Oberlin College and UofI Champaign. The schools are very different. She wants to become a vet, and enjoys music also as a double major.
I did an sdn search, I did not find anything about Oberlin.
Any help is appreciated.:highfive:

Oberlin's conservatory of music is world renown, but you need to apply to it separately even if you want to double major (this can be done during the first year of school). So I guess it depends on how serious about music this person is. Personally don't know about UofI's program.

Also, oberlin has a very very different culture than a lot of schools and is not for everyone. Very hippy. This is the type of school where students decide that they should collectively save water by not flushing the toilet so much and ends up with a dorm full of clogged overflowing toilets...

I went to Oberlin for undergrad and will most likely be going to UIUC for vet school this fall. Oberlin gives a great, well-rounded and rigorous education that really promotes critical thinking. It also is much smaller and doesn't have a lot of pre-vet students, so pre-vet is a concentration (not a major) and there isn't a pre-vet club. There are advantages and disadvantages to going to Oberlin, however, the people I interviewed with this year have told me they take Oberlin's reputation into consideration when looking at your application. Unless the person specifically wanted to go to UIUC for vet school (in which case going there for undergrad would probably give them an 'in'), going to Oberlin may end up being more helpful (I'm biased, of course 😛). In terms of music, yes, Oberlin's conservatory is world-renowned and you can't beat the level of talent you find at performances there. I was also very interested in music, and played in the college orchestra and took lessons at the conservatory- both of which you can do as a college student. The atmospheres of the college campuses will be extremely different from each other, of course. Oberlin is very hippy, which I loved, but the student will definitely need to swing left-of-center to really fit in there. @GroverPsychMD, PM me if the student has any specific questions about Oberlin I can answer!
