Anyone, here go through the CME + testing pathway to get this certification. I figure total cost of that to be around $3-4k plus time. The both sides I've heard is one this will likely be a fellowship in the future and it would be nice to have this CAQ added on before its formalized with extra training (sports medicine, palliative, geri I believe were like this in the past) and the other side being they are formalizing something with extra money/CME when this is something you already can figure out with your FM cert.

Thanks for any insight or help.

I have a buddy who did this and earned his Diploma In Obesity Medicine. He says that he learned a alot and that it was a good course. I've considered doing it also (for when I inevatibly leave the ER world). I've seen where they are looking for ABMS certification which would be good thing I think.

So, I guess if you're interested in the population and work for a facility that will foot the bill I'd go for it. If I had to pay for it myself I don't think I would.

I suspect that if/when it does get a CAQ it will be like most FM subspecialities in that it will be a small but significant (~25%) part of your daily practice.
