Common Decency died in agony yesterday when a family insisted their severely demented 96 year-old loved one be intubated for recurrent aspiration pneumonia and have a feeding tube placed. The death was accompanied by the loss and debility of thousands of children who cannot afford health care.

I took care of an almost identical patient just last week. It's frustrating, fatiguing, and at times seems inhumane.

Do pediatricians ever feel like this?

You know, misanthropic?
