Observership in Psychiatry

I was wondering if anyone has any information about hospitals or programs that are open to observerships in the psychiatry department. I have a friend who is graduating now in June and will be applying for residency in psychiatry (1st time applicant) in the US this September and did his medical school training in Poland. He's interested particularly in neuropsychiatry, but still not decided. He is very dedicated and will make an excellent psychiatrists but is really having trouble finding any departments to do this in.

Any suggestions?

Poland? That's strange. We have a MS here whose brother is in MS in Poland. PM me...this department might consider him or at the very least, our medical school might be able to hook him up. His English skills are key.

I wanted to know if only the post-graduate students can apply for observership? Because I am a first year medical student and I wanted to apply for observership in US after my second year during my semester leave. So do tell me if its possible and how?

It's fairly uncommon to do such thing in Psychiatry but you can try Abington Memorial Hospital outside of Philly. They don't offer an observership per se but you can shadow some of the psychiatrists and they're all friendly and supportive.

Regarding the original post, if your friend isn't sure about neurospychiatry then why doesn't he or she observe a neuropsychiatrist right there in Poland? What's up with this coming to America thing? If he can't find one in Poland, then branch out to neighboring countries like Austria, Hungary, etc, and if that fails then try places like France and Germany. Or if your friend likes Vodka then head East into Russia. They've gotta have a neuropsychiatrist hiding out in them hills there somewhere pondering old photos of Stalin.
