I was wondering how difficult is it to get a CA-1 spot when you apply during your internship?? Is there lots of programs that accepts interns into their program? Thanks

There are tons of threads about this. Here's the bottom line:

1. Apply through the match right NOW. You're a month behind everyone else, but that's not all that big of a deal. That way you could get a 2009 CA1 spot through the match which is better than not getting a spot, if you truly want to do anesthesia. Many programs have a spot or two they save to fill outside the match, and some of them interview for that in conjunction with their routine match spots.

2. Send a CV and cover letter to the PD at every program you could possibly be interested in. You may find a program with a 2008 CA1 spot. All the addresses are on FREIDA, and it's easy to do with a mail merge on Microsoft Word. If you don't know how to do that, now's the time to learn.

Quite a few people come in outside the match as interns, but you've got to do the work.
