okay so what is the order of who has the highest and lowest among function groups...

i have (increasing boiling points'0:

alkanes

aldehydes/ketones

alcohols

carboxylic acids



where do amines go? aldehyde or ketones are higher?

i thought alcohols have the highest bp cuz they got the strongest h-bonds... 😕

Carboxylic Acids are able to dimerize? IE form two Hydrogen bonds between the carbonyl oxygen and the alcohol group. They have the highest BP because of that...

Primary and secondory amines contain N-H bonds, so they are able to H-bond with each other. However, the N-H bond is not as polar as the O-H bond seen in alcohols and carboxylic acids, so their boilings points are generally lower.
