Are they common? what kinds of questions (how detailed) do they ask?

also, should I study gen chem lab techniques?

there might be some lab technique questions on gen chem or orgo section your kaplan book should cover these along with destroyer its useful to know them because they are easy points and can possibly show up on the exam. brush up on some simple stuff don't go too crazy with it though focus on the general topics more.
