*OCPM Class of 2011*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Great, look forward to seeing some of you at OCPM this August. Podman, you might be able to help me with this question. I would like to spend the rest of my summer studying anatomy and getting ready. Would there be any way you could give me information for a contact person who could give me some of the information that is covered in the first year anatomy course (and in what detail); like systems covered, muscles, skeletal, cardiac, GI, ect...I am an adjunct anatomy professor, and I have numerous resources available to me this summer but I would like to know how the course will be conducted. Any information you could give would be helpful! 🙂

Hey there,

I have to sincerely appologize for misreading your screen name because I had someone private message me questions regarding my school, and he had a similar screen name to yours with the exception of a few added numbers at the end. I thought that I had replied to your inquiry but I clearly did not. My appologies for that.

The anatomy curriculum is divided into 3 big units. The first of which covers the abdominal region and organs. The second covers the Upper extremity and Back - including all muscular insertions, arteries, and nerve innervation. The final topic covers the head and neck.

The Lower anatomy curriculum covers the entire lower limb from the pelvis down including all blood supply, nerves, musclar insertions. EXTREMELY detailed course.

If you want my honest take, don't stress yourself over the summer with anatomy - i tell prospective students that it is a great idea to study anatomy before beginning podiatric medical school, dental school, or MD/DO school but if you already have the anatomy experience then take the time off and enjoy a vacation or break before school - because believe me, your time off will be extremely limited from that point on. Please feel free to pm me at any time.

Thank you podman, I appreciate your advise.

I got accepted today...OCPM Class of 2011!!!🙂

Hi everyone, I have an interview coming up at OCPM. I was wondering if I could get some feedback from you guys as far as how the interview is, what type of questions they ask, and anything else in general that you think might be helpful. Also, how long did it take for you guys to get a decision?? Your responses will be greatly appreciated. I'm just really nervous

search the forums.... this has been beaten to death. also check out the interview feedback section about OCPM, its helpful.

My interview at Ohio was different than all of the others. Dean Lott asked questions that were much more personal and a bit deeper than other interviewers at different schools. If you show dean lott who you really are i.e. be genuine, i think you would be fine. have questions for her and be interested in what she has to say. look at pics of the new building and talk to her abou that. things like is it wireless, etc...
just relax...interviews are easy! they are not trying screw you up and confuse you, they like you on paper and want to meet the person. you'll be fine!

I have posted my interview feedback in the "feedback" section of the forum. BUt the Ohio interviews were very comfortable. Dean Lott is super nice and easy to talk to. You will be nervous until you are face to face with her and then you'll be fine.

I was in Broadview Heights the other day checkin out the Vineyards and apparently another future classmate from OCPM was doing the same.

Just thought I'd share.... wheres everyone else lookin?

I had posted on the facebook group if anyone had checked out the vineyards, but i got no responce on there I guess I should have checked on here.

Oh well I settled on the regency, but I am still thinking of getting my own place (condo).

yea i posted a few messages on there and got no response whatsoever. so i dropped out.

Edit: the vineyards did look really nice

i just got a one bedroom at the midtown apartments, just over a 5 minute drive, almost a stone throw away from cleveland clinic and giant eagle right across the parking lot, reasonable rates too, no balconys tho..

if anyone has questions about your first year at OCPM, ill answer them as best as i can. Im just finishing up my first year right now. 🙂

I haven't checked out too many places. I settled on the regency after visiting there. I will be living in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom w/2 other roomates. I'm excited to start my first ear of Pod School!

What are the groups thoughts about trying to get together sometime before school starts??? Pre-podiatry party 👍 :hardy:

im down, where is everyone originally from

West Bloomfield, MI here

I'm from Cleveland, OH...let me know when everybody is gonna be in town and we'll set something up. I can help people looking for housing too.

Hey I was wondering if anyone has heard of which are good books to buy before coming to school. Does anyone have suggestions? I've heard netter's atlas of anatomy is good, is this a good one to buy? Any suggestions or comments are welcome, thanks!

It is great that you are excited to start but enjoy your summer and time off. You will be thankful that you enjoyed your summer when you are missing great fall weather because you have to study.

ya don't be that nerd who studied everything already haha......I love podiatry students (and pre-pods) b/c I think they are the most laid back. We are normal people but we work really hard to achieve our goals. We don't have our noses in the air and we don't think we are better than anyone. That's one of the main reasons I love the field over other medical fields. Just have fun all summer!!!!

GO OCPM class of 2011

I agree completely! It's fun, but it is a lot of work. Enjoy yourselves!!!! I'll see you guys in August.

Dude I appreciate your enthusiasm but take this as an advise - don't make assumptions before you start school - I'm a third year student, and I can tell you and guarantee that you will see an array of all types of students - The overachievers, the "laid back", team players, the jackasses, and the selfish. So believe me you will run into those with "noses in the air" in your own classroom. It sucks but that's professional school for you.

Just enjoy the experience and always remember that you're primary goal is to learn. Good luck in the fall

cool man thanks. I'll make sure to be a little careful and watchout for those people... Since you are a 3rd year I had a quick question if you don't mind. After doing externships, do you have to move back to ohio for your 4th year or only for the last 3 months? thanks

yep, we have to be in cleveland for our last 3 months. We take our part II boards around March and then the school gives us a course about business/billing during that time. We're also expected to be rotating through the clinics at this time.

Best thing to do is to move in with a bunch of people during your fourth year - this way the rent is cheap, someone is always home, and the costs are low because travelling across the country will put a major dent in anyones pocket!
