OCPM or Temple?

Hey guys. Was just accepted to both OCPM and Temple. Woohoo.
Stressing over which school to attend. I know they are both in very different areas, but I seem to have pros and cons about each school. Anyone have any insight for me?

I'm going to Temple, but OCPM is good as well, could be equally as good. One thing that is a big difference for me was the clinic. The clinic is separate by a 30 min drive in Ohio, where in Temple it is connected to the school. Also, the clinic experience could be better at Temple. As education and board as concerned, I think it all depends on you. The average pass rate at Temple was over eighty percent? I believe. The average MCAT and GPA are also high entering for Temple, 3.2, 23 MCAT from last year. This year prob 3.3 and a 24-25 as admissions told me. Temple also has its own ambulatory surgical center in its building. But again, I'm going to Temple. Ohio was nice because everything was new. The clinic was just too far to commute. I don't want to drive anywhere. Plus: Temple has school housing, which is a huge plus.

Good luck on your decision. The main thing is that it is up to you. The school is as good as you make it. Congrats on both acceptances though! Good luck.

Just a thought to add to the above poster.
It depends where you live but, 1) if you live closer to downtown, you will live closer to clinic. 2) by the time you are a 3rd year actually in clinic, OCPM will have a clinic on campus. The contract will run out (in 3yrs) at the Huron Hospital and will not be renewed. The Euclid Clinic will probably stay as its pretty busy.

It depends where you live but, 1) if you live closer to downtown, you will live closer to clinic. 2) by the time you are a 3rd year actually in clinic, OCPM will have a clinic on campus. The contract will run out (in 3yrs) at the Huron Hospital and will not be renewed. The Euclid Clinic will probably stay as its pretty busy.

I was gonna say, 30 minutes seems like a lot, especially around cleveland area. I made it from downtown to school in 20 minutes tops and that was during "rush" hour.

From what I heard, there are 2 OCPM clinics overall- 1 clinic was quite busy while the other was slow. About Huron Hospital location, is that the one where there are TWO podiatry clinics in the same building? I didn't really understand this. 3rd years seemed to complain it was the main reason why the clinic was not busy (competition between OCPM clinic vs non-OCPM clinic).

Considering a clinic on campus - do you realistically seeing it become a busy place? I would imagine more patients and diverse pathology near the city rather than out in the wealthy burbs.

mmhmm. I can see it now: The independence, ohio foot and ankle clinic: the rich, old, white-lady ingrown toenail capital of the state.

If you have any ?s about the Cleveland area I can answer them. I grew up about 15 minutes from Independence and went to high school in Parma (Heights), where most students live.

One thing I really like about OCPM is the location. The cost of living is pretty darn affordable compared to some of the other schools. Less loans sounds pretty appealing right now 👍

Depends on where you drive from and traffic/construction plus traffic lights, but from the school to the Euclid clinic may be around 20 and to Huron 30 (on a good day), but I live 7-10 miles south of school so it takes a bit longer. Euclid is pretty busy, Huron is slow. I'm not sure why really. I haven't heard of another clinic around Huron Hospital. Its in East Cleveland though and its not the best neighborhood if you know what I mean, so that may have something to do with it. (There could be some kind of competetion, I'm not sure. I haven't heard of any though.) I'm pretty sure a clinic on campus would be busy. I guess it depends on everyone's insurance providers and what is accepted but there are ALOT of people in the surrounding area. It's very residential, much more so than around Euclid. Also, I'm sure you'd see near the same ratio of various pathologies as well. I think it would be great. I'm certain an on clinic campus could do better than the Huron Hospital so it will be a positive change.
