I was hoping to get opinions on various OCT machines. I am researching used options for a free clinic that is looking to try and get an OCT machine. The clinic serves uninsured patients with a high population of diabetic patients. They have connections and can refer to retina providers in town that have been able to treat at a lower charge and/or try and get patients into clinical trials that can cover the cost of treatment. The main aim would be as a screening tool for DME, but it could also be used for volunteer providers to follow glaucoma patients.

I have only worked with Zeiss cirrus machines in training and various practice settings and have been very satisfied with them. However, when looking at the used market, these seems to be the most expensive. I have heard good things about the heidelberg spectralis machine but know nothing about the optovue avanti machines. The clinic obviously has limited funds but does not want to invest money on too old or poor of equipment that would not last for very long. Does anyone have any opinions on types of machines, specifically optovue vs something like a cirrus 500/5000? Any good resources for used equipment or does anyone happen to know of any good machines that might be available for purchase due to upgrade? Thanks for any input/help!

What do people think of the Optovue iVue 80, which I think is $30,000-35,000 for a non-retinal practice?
