So none of my away rotation dates are working out/overlapping right. Would you advise against doing an away in October at my top choice program? I'm worried the letter of rec wont be in on time for interviews. It might come down to that or doing only 2 aways instead of 3

I'm doing an away that ends in mid-october at a place I hope to get an LOR. I think deadlines for a lot of programs for LORs is like Nov 1 or early Nov at least, but I heard some students ahead of me say that as long as the LOR is in before the interview its all good so I dunno. If you can make sure that the lettter writer understands that its very important to have it ready right after your rotation then it may not be too late. But if its your top choice program it might even be worth it to rotate there just so that you can impress people even if you don't get a letter out of it.

If you are doing an away at your number 1 choice, it doesn't really matter when you do it as long as its before they make their match rank list. Yes, if you do it earlier you can get a letter for your app [which will help at other schools].... but its working with the residents/attendings and them getting to know you as a person that will matter most [for that particular program].
