I am looking for non-ASOPRS oculoplastic fellowship training opportunities. How do I find them? I have heard that most of the opportunities are found by 'word of mouth'. Does anyone have any insight into how one might go about finding out where these programs are and contact information?

Some list through the regular fellowship match. You would apply as you would for any other fellowship listed.

Others are informal in nature: you basically contact an attending who has trained fellows in the past or might want to and inquire. Think of it as a job application: you will send a CV, letters of recommendation and whatever else that is requested. I suggest you look at large academic programs with a plastics faculty but that don't already have a fellowship and inquire. You might even think of persuading an attending who is on the fence about training a fellow to take you on. I think the overall size and volume of the institution should be a consideration as you want to go somewhere you will be able to get a large volume of case experience in a short time.

They are a dying breed. ASOPRS has listed many of them and persuaded others to close up.

There is a one year, private oculoplastic fellowship program in Florida (Miami maybe?). But I can’t tell you anything about the quality of the program or if the fellow is mainly someone's personal B!+$#... Good luck.

Talking about B? If so, it is not reputable.
