Hey everyone, I am getting ready to take my Mcat in May and hit the applications as soon as I can, and have been looking back over things that I think will aid my application (Volunteering at a psychiatric hospital, research, habitat for humanity...) and was left wondering about one more.

I play in a rock band, and have since my freshman year. We got really well known in our area, and traveled over the region (Ohio and Michigan) and even got to play for 3 nationally signed bands (crowds of 1,000+!!). I've just started to wonder if this may actually look bad to an admissions committee, kind of paint me in a bad light. We have done charity shows and benefits as well, but I just worry that I will be thought of as possessing some of the more questionable characteristics that are typically associated with members of a rock band.

I would hope that having a good amount of A's in the more advanced courses (Ochem I,II, Physics I, II, genetics, cell bio and some neurosciences) would demonstrate my devotion to academics, but I just don't know.

Do you think I should still mention the band, or forget about it?

Thank you for your time

I'm pretty sure showing that you can perform well academically while still doing various things is a positive. I would include it. You're supposed to have a life!

Ok, I think I will mention it then, thank you! I just wasn't sure and I am hitting the pinnacle of my worries lol

The more things you can mention that make admins think you are a "well-rounded" individual the better.

Nat, the tall guy from 3OH!3, is holding a deferred acceptance to the Univ. of Colorado med school.

Definitely mention it. But, keep in mind they might actually look you up on the internet if you have songs or videos available for streaming. I've heard of this happening!

Yeah, thats kind of what worried me. Our songs aren't offensive, really, just alternative rock stuff, kinda like 3 days grace or foo fghters, but there are definitely a few pictures of me with the guys from tantric that may not be an accurate representation of myself...😉

Maybe just not mention our name, and do some myspace editing?

Thanks for all the input guys!
