I know this is going to open a hornets nest of opinions but I thought it was interesting info that I should share.

So I'm sitting in the middle of business class right now and the teacher is telling us there were less optometrists in 2005 than in 1998. I don't have any sources but it was interesting to hear.

Also after reasearching "too many optometrists" on google I couldn't find much. Now I know google is so so with its resources but I did find some info about too many dentists. This happened just after WW2 when the government pushed dental schools to decrease the duration of classes before graduation. Just afterwards there were too many dentists. Over time the problem reportadly fixed itself. Once again economics takes over and things sifted to what they are. Being just about ready to enter the front lines of optometry, I think its important to support the program and let problems settle themselves.

Did you ask the teacher if they had any sources?

Thats interesting because I have an article written in 2000 that says there is going to be an oversupply of optometrist in 2010. This is scary because I'm considering entering optometry school fall 2007. I keep getting conflicting info and it's driving me crazy. Is there an oversupply or not? Is this a good career? Or am I setting myself up?

not only is there an oversupply. But i went to a business lecture this week that said that we will need less od's b/c of technology and genetics (ie. trying to cure myopia etc.)
