so who's making nice round (or square, i suppose) pie for Pi day? I only just realized it was today when I wandered to google. I might do apple pie- I have enough apples. yum

Well I made a chocolate cake - because we like cake better than pie. But I'll decorate it with dorky math symbols 😀

But how many people here can recite pi? Its a fun number to memorize, more people should try it.

I was in Math Counts (a math club) in middle school and a fellow member could recite 26 digits of pi. Made me think of all the things he could of done with the time he spent memorizing it. 🙂

3.14159. That's all I've got! Let's hear it David (no cheating)!

Thats about all I can remember, and I might be off a digit or 2 in there somewhere. Haven't actually looked at the number in about 8 years. I had topped out knowing around 150 digits back in high school.

101 digits here... sadly 😉

All memorizing was done in grade 10 math class, and it stuck with me

Anyone else seen that Weebl and Bob animated comic? "Mmmmm Pie. When come back, bring pie!"

I may be celebrating with a pizza pie to help me study for parasitology, and celebrate spring break. Aka a week of working and catching up on studying!

That looks so tasty! I've already made plans to extend my cake decorating skills next weekend. Perhaps it will be a tribute to pi day as well.

It was 2007 Martha Steward Devil's Food and it was fantastic.

My foodlblog will be updated with it in a few days if you guys are truly interested: www.brannyboilsover.com

That is an amazing pi cake. I nixed the abba pie and was going to make pizza (w/ caramelized onions and roasted eggyplant), but had to go do my sister's birthday dinner instead. Maybe I'll make a knife shaped calzone for the ides of march tomorrow, instead.. all the yum, none of the overnight ouchy overeating tummy.

Yes! Love this thread! 🙂 Happy Pi day everyone!!!!!!

Last year for Pi Day I made 10 pies. This year I made Pi times as many... so I made 31.4 (9") pies this year! There were 6 Mississippi Mud pies (like a brownie and amazingly delicious), 7 apple pies of different types (dutch versus regular, and apple versus apple cranberry), 2 chocolate chip peanut butter pies (like a Reeses), 2 Pumpkin pies, 1 Butterscotch Pecan pie, 1 Chocolate Chip Pecan pie, 1 Raisin pie, 2 Banana Cream pies, 1 Coconut Cream pie, 1 Coconut meets almond joy/mounds pie, 1 Coffee Cream pie, 1 Raspberry Cream pie, 3 S'more pies, 2 Breakfast pies (Hashbrowns for crusts, bacon, egg, and cheese; one had spam in it in addition to the bacon), and 2 small breakfast turnover pie things that equaled out to 0.4 of a 9" pie. *Phew*

If you want recipes to any of these, let me know. 🙂

Obviously, the tune can't be added in, but this is how I know the first (I think it's) 28 digits of Pi (though I know there is an "83" that goes after the digits listed). It's the Pi Song!! We learned this in 8th grade, and I still remember it!

First comes the number 3
Next comes the point you see
Then comes the 1 and then the 4
(Doo, Doo, Doo...)
1, 5, 9, 2, 6, 5,
3, 5 Oh Sakes Alive!
Surely there can't be anymore?
8, 9, 7, 9
Pi can go on all day
3, 2, 3, 8
Numerically speaking, it's okay!
Next comes the number 4
Then 6, 2, 6, and 4
Double 3 oh it can't be!
Oh I just don't understand
Why there's no law in the land
To make Pi equal just plain three!

Whoa, didn't know there was a Pi song. What tune is it to?

A buddy of mine owns this shirt. I've always been secretly jealous.

My friend memorized the first 100 numbers for our 3rd grade talent show. I guess nerds hang out together 🙂

Why would anyone memorize pi? There can't be many middle schoolers/high schoolers that need to know more than 6-12 digits are there? Is this just a ploy to add some competition to math classes?

The song was cute, but why in the world would 8th graders need to know 28 digits of pi? 😕

That being said--one of favorite holidays! 👍

Holy s**t that's a lot of pies. You are like a superhero whose power is making pie. I am impressed!

I could care less about the recipes, but... Where do you live, and how soon can I get there???

I would have been totally lost without the Pi button on my calculator.

Haha, I'm from the bay area in California, but drove down to San Luis Obispo (where I graduated from and a good portion of my friends still have not) for the event. It was from 10:30pm last night until 5am this morning. Sorry to say, there is nothing left. It was kind of funny how confused people were that I was going to go to vet school and not culinary school.

The song was just for fun! I don't really know why we learned it. And it doesn't have a familiar tune either! The triangle song we also learned that year at least had the same tune as the Oscar Meyer wiener song (a way to remember differences between equilateral, scalene, and isosceles). But the Pi Song is unique.

My friend made a sweet beer pong table though for the tournament we had! The triangle you line your cups on was Pascal's triangle, the digits of Pi (probably close to the first 400 or so) were written along the edges of the board, and in the center (kind of an inside joke) said "Do S F*ds" (S is the integral sign), so "Do Work". It was nerdy and awesome.

but what would you cook for it? moles are not tasty, and most chemistry "cooking" is best left to labs and felons.

what's left? Mole shaped cake? And in that case, do you chose the animal, or the (hairy?) blemish?

I think I'll just stick with guac and other avocado based ideas. Avocado is close to avogadro, right? and guacamole has "mole" in it. I can work with this.

HAHA I smiled when I read the felons part

There's still time left to celebrate the Ides of March! 😉

Happy Ides of March everyone!
