Official 2009 USMLE Step 1 FREDv2 Surveillance

Anyone, anyone? Ohio, where you at. New York, check in. Seattle, you out there?

NEW YORK....I spoke to some friends that took it on Mon and it's still FREDV1!

Btw, does the FREDV2 automatically mean more A/V questions, sequence questions and a 6-8 week hold for scores?

NEW YORK CITY: Not sure if this holds true for the 3rd ave and Penn Plaza centers, but I called Brooklyn (111 Livingston St) center ahead of my Thursday Step 1 appt (thursday!! whoa!) to ask about the software, and they said that they are still on V1. However, they told me that they only find out about the change the day before, so it literally could change any day.

As for score reporting, not sure.

Good luck everyone taking the Step this week! It'll feel so very wonderful to put this behind us.

heard from a friend that toronto's still v1. reno is also still v1. reno prometric said that they probably won't transition to v2 until june because they haven't even received the software or any other info from the usmle ppl yet. i think me telling them about it was actually the first time that they heard about it... 😱

So if you take V1, do you still get your scores back in 3 weeks?

probably not. it would take time for the USMLE ppl to find out which version that you had at your test center on top of whatever else that they normally do, not to mention that mid-may/june is the peak time for test-taking so scores are generally delayed anyway. I say expect your scores in about 6 weeks, if you do get them in 3, then that's a good thing 🙂

Orange county lake forest has started switching - 3 days ago they gave half the students V1 and half V2.

Does anyone know the V1/V2 situation at Toledo?

Anyone happen to know the V1/V2 situation at Toledo, Ann Arbor, or Livonia?

My cousin took the test in Ann Arbor yesterday and had V1.

And if it helps anybody, Reno Prometric just told me that they were going to switch over to V2 probably at the end of the week or early next week.

My cousin took the test in Ann Arbor yesterday and had V1.

Thanks for the info, Ann Arbor is impossible to reach by phone!

Anyone else happen to hear about Livonia or Toledo?
I called both sites, and both people I spoke with initially didn't know, put me on hold while they asked someone else, and then came back and said "yes we switched to the new software"... but they didn't seem to know much about it, so they could still be doing it 'half & half' like a lot of people here are reporting... So I trust the personal accounts here more than the testing people over the phone.

Rumor has it that V2 has started implementation here in Mississippi. Not that anyone cares about what happens here though. I'll find out tomorrow when I take my practice session.

I think they are the questions where the answer from the first question is needed to answer the 2nd question.

Yup. They are questions that have a box around them so you know they're sequential. Once you answer the first and click to go to the second you are warned that you cannot go back. Then you answer the second question. You can't change your first answer once you see the second. It often gives away what the first one likely was.

There's an example in the fourth block of the free questions that they offer in V2 format.

What the hell? Thanks for the answer. Who's bright idea were those type of questions?!

I didn't realize they offered them in V2 format. Do you mind providing a link to this? Thanks.

Sorry I don't have the link anymore, I was ecstatic to delete everythign USMLE related as soon as I was done.

Its on the NBME website, under the practice/orientation materials. You have the choice of downloading V1 or V2. The only difference being the program and the addition of a sequential question at the end of the 4th block (the block with all the media stuff) in V2.

V1 and V2 will not work on my Mac. Any reports on the Chicago Prometric Center?

I'm hoping the NBME is saying 6-8 weeks for score reporting to protect their *****. Maybe V2 test takers will be pleasantly surprised...
