Hey guys! Since we all have seen the Official Class of blah blah blah interview threads for medical school and residency I figured we should start one for the current cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship applicants as well.

There are a few older threads out there with some helpful info for applying for the cardiac anesthesia fellowship, but let's all share our journey this year to help out the current and future applicants! Best of luck to everyone!!! :luck:

I'll start off:

Beth Israel Deaconess
Emory
Columbia

Come on guys and gals, don't be shy! Let's help each other out, this is what SDN is truly about!

Now that it's after the June 1 Program Director's Agreement date, where did everyone end up?

Heading to Columbia! Verrrry tight match this year....I think a lot of places gave away spots to internal candidates.

I am still waiting to find out if I get a spot. A lot of program director are telling me that cardiac was very competitive this year. Congratulations to those who were offered a spot.

I'll be going to Texas Heart Institute.

Keep the results coming, best of luck to everyone!!!

sorry to hijack this thread.

I am just about to start my CA-1 year and am interested in Cardiac Anesthesia. When is the application period? I know it's during our CA-2 year but what's the time frame of sending applications and interviewing? As far as I know there's no official match right? or am I mistaken?

any tips on what makes you competitive? besides strong LORs and going to a strong residency program in the first place.

thanks for the replies.

bump...I too am a CA2, looking to start applying...how early do I need to get started, and what are the critical factors in determining your chances for getting a spot? Does anyone have any words of wisdom from the interview trail? Thanks!!:luck:

I started applying around March 12. I missed the deadlines for some programs. I'd start in February. A guy I know had apps in January 3. What will get you in? It's who you know. At your interviews, don't ask things along the lines of how much will you work or all about benefits. Well, you can ask, but save it for the fellows. If things like that are the determining factors for a one year fellowship, I would reevaluate your priorities. Yes, even if you have a family.
