*alert for seriously paranoid pre-med thread. I'm almost embarrassed to post this but the anonymity of the internet is encouraging me.

There is talk about post-MCATers getting "official MCAT prep" emails from AAMC. The email is sent ~a week before scores are posted. Apparently over on the July 2nd MCAT thread, many people who got this email ended up scoring below 30.

So, does AAMC intentionally send this email to people who will most likely need a retake? those of you who recently got your scores, can you confirm or deny this email/<30 relationship?

Relax. I got a similar email and ended up scoring above a 30. Calm down, go for a walk, and step away from SDN for a bit. Waiting for scores is a difficult time, one that will pass much easier if you learn to let go of the results of your work. There is nothing you can do right now to change your score so you might as well enjoy yourself.

Hell, I haven't even taken the mcat yet, and they've actually sent me the book (FAP recipient) and I've still received that email a bunch of times.

I had a friend who received the emails and scored a 32.

Also got the emails and scored above 30. I think it's probably just unfortunate mistiming.

Just to put in my two cents, I took the July 2nd test and got the email. I thought the exact same thing as you, but I got above a thirty. I'm so sorry you are still in that waiting period--it's horrible, but it will end!
Best of luck!

Along the same lines: don't read too much into stuff like that from AAMC or AMCAS. If you keep this up, you'll keel over from an MI before you matriculate!

Just remember to breathe and keep things in perspective as much as possible. 😉

I'm really not worried myself, I'm more curious because I thought it would be wrong of AAMC to do something like that. My friends over on the July 12 page will be happy to read your replies though 🙂

The wait is almost over... Bring it on, Tuesday!

Thanks!

Most people score below a 30 on the MCAT, the correlation is weak at best. Stop being paranoid, get off the forums, and stop making yourself more nervous than you would naturally be from the wait.

Thinking and focusing on crappy thoughts is a choice, and that choice puts you in a crappy, anxious, mood. Let that stuff pass, it's not like you can do a friggin thing about your MCAT score right now, and think about other things that you actually like.

I know I'm probably speaking for a tiny minority here but compared to studying the weeks leading up to the MCAT, waiting for a score is much more relieving because you can do so many activities that can distract you (exercise, hang out with friends, play video games) while beforehand you restrained from doing any of those things just to do another practice test run.

Got the same email. Was paranoid myself. Scored above 30. I feel ya tho.
