Most of us will be flying into each others hometown in the next few months. I know some of us are planning on staying an extra day or two to look around the city. I was thinking it might be nice if we could hook up with people from that town and maybe they can show us around. Would beat just going around town alone.

I am sure you won't have trouble finding a cheap place near Drew. But I don't recommend you stay near Drew. Drew is not in a good area, you may want to stay a bit further out and drive there. If you want, I can look up some places close enough and that are rather safe. I will ask tomorrow at work (we go to Drew ER all the time) and find out some good places hopefully. Tell me first, if you will have a car or not so I can search according to that.
BTW, where are you coming in from and how long are you staying?

Also I am updating the first post with the new info in there.

Sorry it took a little while for me to dig up this information. But here it is.

Well the areas aroud Drew aren't the safest. The nearest safe area that I can think of is Downey. That would work the best - get a hotel near Imperial Hwy. Then all you have to do is hop onto Imperial Hwy in Downey and it would take you straight there. Just go to yahoo, put in imperial hwy, downey, ca and then look up the hotels there. They seem to be pretty affordable too. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions let me know.

ramz, have you received that list of hotels w/in walking distance to UCLA yet? They're a bit more expensive, but definitely worth it since the traffic near the campus is horrible.

Whatever you do, don't stay @ the Claremont Hotel, though. I saved some $$ staying there, but realized that i'm way past my backpacking days. Really old & nasty!

I'll be heading to Drew too in Feb & was thinking of staying near the downtown area to explore a bit of that & Chinatown. I saw some good hotel deals @ Wilshire Blvd a few miles west of downtown. Do you and other LA folks know if that's an ok area. I'm not that concerned @ safety since my b/f will be there & we'll have a car. Also, since the interview is on Sat morning, I'm hoping that the traffic on 110 south won't be too bad.

Wilshire blvd is very nice from what I know (but I have only been on Wilshire near UCLA). I am not sure where exactly is the portion you are referring too, if you give me something specific I can look into it. But overall I don't think that should be bad.
