My concern is what happens to those on the waitlist, once they're accepted. We haven't received any info or anything related to housing. Do we still have to submit a form by May 1st and if so, what do we have to do if anything?

I'm sure you guys will be given a different date. May 1st is for the 2nd round of acceptance people. I know people accepted Dec. 1 or so were given an earlier date than May 1st.

I think May 1st is the due date for both the people accepted in the first round and others accepted in later rounds. It's just the deposit amount is different depending on the rounds.

As for people on the wait list, unless you are accepted, you don't receive a housing interest form as it comes with your acceptance package (ID number, email, health forms, etc.). To tell you the truth, students coming off the wait list will probably not receive student housing unless a large number of students accepted decline student housing. But who knows, this is NYC, everything is so expensive that anything can happen. No worries though, if you're on the wait list at NYUCD, you have the best chance of getting of it compared to other schools.

Yep. It's hard to get student housing. I was told that the dschool only gets 100 or so spots for 330 students. BUT, a friend of mine from ny told me that you can get a decent sized bdrm for pretty cheap in brooklyn. Studios or apartments around the dental school are just insanely expensive.

You actually better off getting one in Queens because it is much nicer and easier to get to the school. Also there are a lot of students coming from Queens you can find someone to share a ride with....

We all need to grow up someday, life needs is full of responsiblities and sacrifice. I don't think you want to inform prospective students that they are losing something as they enter an amazing profession. I want to stress to everyone coming to NYU that you will be blown away by the gain of new feelings and will quickly forget "wild and crazy summers". Accomplishment, satisfaction, approval, and confidence are of the many feelings that will begin to creep in within the first months of being here.

I just got interviewed there yesterday! For the waitlist.... 🙁 but the guy Strothorn or something loved me off and wants me there! Wonder if he can get me in.. Any ideas?????????? He said definite for next year to apply again but i want an acceptance for THIS YEAR! lol... my deal is I applied late in Jan of this year but my stats are pretty high.. it went upto around 3.68 or so after his term and 3.80 or so for BCP.

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to get a cell phone once I move to NY, can anyone recommend me a network that has the best affordable plan (sprint, cingular, verizon, t-mobile, nextel,...). Ideally I'm looking for free incoming and unlimited nights. I'm also assuming NYU will have some sales reps providing us with 'deals' at the beginning of the semester but I'd like your input first.

What will be your cell phone situation once you move out there?

Excuse my ignorance as I'm from Canada.

I'm leaning towards Sprint too (they're the ones with the free incoming). I like the treo 755p and their reasonably priced plans with free nights at 7.

As far as coverage, I doubt any provider would have problems in Manhattan. I've been wrong before though...

Thanks Mackchops, I think it makes sense to get a smartphone as I don't want to lug a cell and pda on top of the laptop we have to bring everyday. I guess I have to find something that is compatible with my macbook.

Any comments regarding the following products?

BlackBerry 8830 (Probably not compatible with Epocrates)

If you do get Sprint, I highly recommend getting a Sanyo phone. The reception is significantly better on a Sanyo than any of the other models on Sprint's network.

Otherwise many of my friends have Verizon. A little more expensive plan-wise, less expensive phones, similar reception to the Sanyos on Sprint.

PS- Hah, and you guys stink for stealing away Bertolami 😡! NYU's rep is already improving, and will be awesome with a few years of Bertolami. Congrats!! 👍

For those concerned about getting a smart phone that has a palm pilot, it is 100% not necessary until your 3rd year. I just finished my 1st year and had zero use for it. Some people have it, however, and use it all the time... for checking e-mail and other things instead of paying attention in class. If you do get one, get the tiny blackberry... i think it's baller.

the blackberry isn't compatible with the epocrates software. 🙄

I am in at NYU too. Ive been accepted since December but was waitlisted at a few other schools and was waiting to see any out comes before posting. NYU totally exceed my expectations when I interviewed there and very excited to begin in August. Still working on setting up a facebook page tho haha.
