Hello fellow applicants, and welcome to the official thread for interviews and acceptances for the University of Utah School of Dentistry Class of 2018. All the best!

Any idea how many OOS applicants the Utes intend to take of the 20 that enroll this year?

I'm pretty sure they aren't taking any. I could be wrong, but that's what I gathered from meeting with the Dean of Admissions.

It's a little quiet over here. How is everyone doing? Any relevant news?

No worries, nothing here either. I think where they get so few applicants and only have 20 spots... they could literally do all of their interviews in November. haha. And where we're all from Utah, travel is irrelevant. I think their application complete email said they'll let us know in the fall. That's vague, I know, but I think we might have a bit to wait still...

Has anyone heard from the U yet?

Any news? Someone posted they got an email and accepted, but that's been deleted now.

I called the University of Utah today and they said that they had sent out all of their invites on the 2nd.

If someone were to get accepted, would it be an ideal choice since school isn't totally set up yet etc.?

I mean, if it's your state school and you're going to save 100k going there, it would be totally worth it. But that was definitely a concern of mine and some of the current students voiced that as well. They still don't know when they're going to take the boards, they don't have a DentSim lab like most top schools do, they don't have much set up as far as extra-mural service opportunities, no specialties to shadow etc. That said, I would still go there because I think there is a lot of potential and the new students can have more of a role in establishing these programs. Even though the dental school doesn't have much of a reputation, the university as a whole does, especially in the health fields. I don't doubt that it will be a great school when it is established. Combining the cost, the potential and the small class size makes it totally worth it in my book.

I emailed Julie and she said they had a few more offers that they hoped to make by the end of the week.
Oh, your sources are probably more reliable than mine then! (Plus I like that possibility more anyway!)

I hate to speculate, but I wonder why its taking them so long if they only have 20 spots to offer. I feel like it should be relatively easy compared to others schools

I just checked the school decisions section of AADSAS and next to University of Utah it says waitlisted, but I never had an interview there....did anyone else get this???

Yeah I got that too. Talked to Julie Oiler. It means that if you are a qualified applicant they could invite you for an interview in case someone drops out. Apparently they had 120 in state applicants this year and a little over 600 out of state.

Has anyone been interviewed for Fall 2015 yet, or heard anything?
